I am currently thinking of selling my gaming pc because I don't want a PC anymore I want a laptop. I want a laptop that I can use for school, (At school and online) and Maybe if I get bored do some lite gaming. I don't do too much gaming anymore (Hence me wanting to sell my pc) but if I get to school and im bored I might play a quick game.

My two options that I have been looking at are

a MSI laptop ( https://www.bestbuy.com/site/msi-15-6-laptop-intel-core-i5-8gb-memory-512gb-ssd-brushed-onyx-black/6411080.p?skuId=6411080 )

and

a brand new Microsoft laptop ( https://www.bestbuy.com/site/microsoft-surface-laptop-3-13-5-touch-screen-intel-core-i5-8gb-memory-128gb-solid-state-drive-latest-model-platinum/6374327.p?skuId=6374327 )

I chose these two computers because I like the sleek design, they have decent specs and they fit my price range. I know microsoft makes laptops for work and school so when I noticed this one I thought it might be great for school and it might be decent for some gaming. But I don't know if it has enough storage because my pc I had a 1tb hard drive and some how its already full. Same for my 128gb ssd that I only put computer tuff on (Windows, Drivers, Corsair, etc) Then as I scrolled I noticed the MSi laptop. When I think MSI, I think gaming. It also has a bigger hard drive and it looks nice aswell. (It kind of reminds me of razer laptops). But since I know it might be for gaming, will the fans be too loud? I don't want to be in math class with a plane engine in front of me.

Any input would help. And if you have any better suggestions,

I want to stay under $800 if possible

Im in highschool so I don't have to do any heavy school work just google apps, maybe premier for a project

I want to be able to do lite gaming on my free time at school

Thanks in advance

If you are inclined, the Motile 14 is a Ryzen laptop where everything can be swapped out/upgraded (includes 2 m.2 slots)

Neither is a great laptop but the msi does simply give you more for your money. If you want the best of the best for your money look at lenovo laptops with a ryzen 4500u or the new hp envy x360 with a ryzen 4500u those will do light gaming and even allow you to play some heavier games at greatly reduced settings. Both of those laptops are far ahead in terms of specs and offer better battery life.

The ms laptop has very little space and is not upgradeable at all so I would very much so not recommend that unit at all. Either way the 2 laptops you chose are basically meant for webbrowsing and office work nothing more. Light gaming is also not going to go well on those as minecraft would be about as far as you could push those.

So my advice is look for any ryzen 4000 laptop like the recent new lenovo's, acer swift 3 or hp envy x360 (which is very in line with the designs you like).

Now I am thinking. I really like the x360 13z. I have only seen it online in reviews because its currently sold out. I have only owned 11 and 13" laptops before so I worry that 15 will be too big and maybe heavy for me. Also, I am thinking maybe I should look for a refurbished laptop because it would be cheaper, the only thing is. It would be refurbished. Should I trust amazons refurbished laptops. Because I plan on going through them. I am also thinking because the surface laptop is only $20 more than the x360, if it will be fine for me. I am only planning on using it for school and lite gaming

The problem with the surface laptop is that it's just worse than the msi. 128gb is very very little and windows quickly takes up 30gb of that space. Then some programs installed and you are very quickly at half the capacity. I strongly advice against getting it. The envy x360 is not that much heavier and the added screenspace is frankly quite nice for working on as it's less of a strain on the eye/gives you more room to work on as you don't need to use windows scaling. (totally depends on you tho).

Either way what is light gaming? The surface won't do it well and it just simply does not have the storage space for it. Refurbished laptops are fine but I tend to either look at ebay for those as that is where you can score a deal or local used offerings.
