external hard drives can be 5400 or 7200rpm,  or even 0rpm. it depends what you buy.

what model of hdd? Unless it says, probably 5400rpm, but rpm doesn't really matter alone.

then look at the specs of the exact drive, they can be either.

They can also be 5900 RPM.  Traditionally this was never a speed that you'd see but over the last many years it has become common
