I have been looking at GPU upgrades for a little while now and have been debating on reworking the bulk of my main computer. Below is my current setup.

I am planning to swap to the RTX2070S GPU but I'm thinking that while I'm upgrading, it might also be worth it to swap out the CPU for a newer Ryzen 5 3600X or possibly a Ryzen 7 3700X. If I'm going to do that then I might as well upgrade the motherboard to have a little more of the "nice to have" features as well. I have been looking at the Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite but I'm not completely sold on it.

My main questions would be

1.) Is it even worth upgrading the CPU if I'm mainly only seeing bottlenecks on the GPU right now?

2.) If I upgrade the CPU, am I on the right track that I might as well swap out the motherboard while I'm doing everything else?

3.) Is there anything else that would make a bigger difference to my overall performance that I'm not considering?

Thanks for looking and any help you're able to provide.

Thanks. I'd heard that the next gen was coming soon but I wasn't sure whether it would be worth it or not. I guess I could always pick up a 2070S after the next gen is released for a considerable discount.

I hadn't tried overclocking the RAM yet but I might look into that. The only place I've notice any major bottleneck so far is the GPU but it might be worth looking into for certain applications.

It's always worth it, otherwise they wouldn't release it ;)

You won't see them at considerable discounts. They stop making them long before they release the new ones, so they'll be out of stock before they need to discount them.

You've got a point there. Well I guess I have waited this long to upgrade the GPU so what's another month or so.

Any thoughts on whether or not it would be worth it to upgrade the CPU while I'm at it? In what I typically do, I haven't noticed the CPU being the bottleneck but if I'm planning on swapping to the new graphics card that may no longer be the case.

I wouldn't bother. Honestly with your platform you might as well just wait for AM5 at this point, if you're not seeing any performance losses that bother you. You'd need a new motherboard to get the latest processor, and you'd be upgrading to a dead platform.
