Im running stress tests on my alienware with i7 4710hq. after checking multiple applications. Im still thermal throttling on all cores at 2.9ghz, im overclocked to 3.7ghz, downclocking makes no difference at all

my cpu temps

core 1 84 degrees

core 2 97 degrees

core 3 93 degrees

core 4 81 degrees

Pc value: 9999999$. Alienware 15 r2: 16GB Ram ddr3, Intel Core i-7 4110HQ @ 3.5ghz, gtx 970m, 1 TB HDD *for games*, 120GB SSD *for windows*.

fastest boot time, 6.5 seconds

Is the vent full of dust? Have you tried replacing the thermal compound?

I recently changed thermal paste, i cleaned dust out so many times

Is it a laptop?
IF so try hightening the back of the laptop up in order to increase airflow. IT DRAMATICALLY decreases temps.

yes it is alienware 15 r2, i have fans run at max speed, and the laptop is elevated. very very good air flow but no change in temps

Same behaviour? When you tried removing the OC did you reduce the core voltage?

Im running at 3.7ghz all cores and the core voltage is 1.2402 volts. do i lower this?

Yeah give it room to breathe, dont let the vents get smothered.

Also, try undervolting. This'll help reduce heat. I did this to my 7700hq in my Dell Inspiron 7577

i am undervolted by 0.65mv, any lower my laptop crashes idk why

When you overclocked it in the first place did you touch voltages?

I would just try resetting CMOS and see what that does for temps. It would set the CPU clock & voltages back to stock. If you changed any other BIOS settings write them down first.

I have an alienware graphics amplifier which allows cpu overclocking, disables laptop to gpu to lower cpu temperatures, however my internal laptop gpu still gets hot (share the same heat pipes im pretty sure), i overclock using throttlestop and i never touch voltages. i reset my cmos a couple months ago which did nothing

I'm wondering if you tried your stress testing on a fresh install on a separate drive if temps would still report the same. This would help direct us towards if this is a software or hardware issue.

Looks like uneven contact with your heatsink and processor. Either there was too much or too little paste, paste was applied incorrectly or too little/too much/uneven mounting pressure.

Not uneven pressure, i did a line of paste, put the heatsink on till the screws could go no further.

Well, that explains your issue.

If you tighten the screws to the point where they can’t possibly budge another hair, you’re bowing the board beneath it compromising contact. Take the heat sink off, paste it again and make sure not to tighten it like the Incredible Hulk. Screw it down enough to where it’s firm and secure and then leave it alone.

A good rule of thumb is to stop tightening after the point where you would need to change your grip on the screw driver to a palm grip (like holding a club) to tighten it further.

I didnt screw it down like i had used a drill, i screwed it down evenly across all corners till they made the click sound that it wouldnt go any further, i know not to overtighten it.

Might be the paste then. The only thing that can cause a variation in core temperatures like that during 100% load is a messed up heat sink application. There’s always the possibility that your chip has quite literally the worst IHS to die contact in the world, but the odds of that are incredibly slim.
