whats better a GTX 1070 paired with a i7 4790k or a i5 9400f

my friend is looking at pcs in the facebook marketplace and he found a prebuilt for 750 with a GTX 1070 and a i7 4790k

the 4790K has a pretty easy time outperforming the 9400F due to some pretty slow boost clocks. The single core boost is a mere 4.1GHz and the 4790K was made to overclock.

 

That said, there's a lot more that we need to know to answer this question.

@SnowyLynx-_- do you own one of these CPUs already? If not, what are the costs of getting both of these CPUs and motherboards? What kind of upgrade path is important to you.

price is too high, get it down to 500 to 580 max. It's a very old platform.

Don't think OP will OC, stock they are on par( at best, most of the time i5 will beat it due to IPC, it's also a newer platform so upgradability), keep in mind it's a old used pc, so expectations on OC will have to be managed, 5ghz is a pipe dream so 4.6 will be more realistic.
