Help. high ping.

Hi, until yesterday fortnite run under 90 ping, now its 140 or even more, sometimes with packets loss.

 

I run a traceroute they offer at:

I tried NA east since it´s the best ping I get but this results make me wonder what is so wrong. My PC/modem, or the ISP or the submarine cables or the fortnite servers?

 

Does it help reinstalling the game? How about turning of the modem for some time? reinstalling windows?

BTW. running any speed test will give 5-8 ms ping / 1 stutter / almost 60 mb download and 30 upload,  

Is it also a fortnite issue?

It's an issue of distance. Ping depends on how far away you are from the server and/or how many hops your packets have to go through.

 

The speed test server is probably one in your own country, meaning it is very close, so you get a low ping. The Fortnite server is (I pressume) somewhere in the US, so packets have to travel a longer distance and go through more servers in between, which increases ping time.

I just played 2 matches in fortnite each time connected to a different cellphone from different companies: ping was 90-100 and 100-110.. Fiber connection was still around 160ish with packets loss. So it musst be some damage from the fiber ISP. Since the internet speed showed so low latency to the local server, it musst be some damage from local server up to NA east servers. I suppose to trace where the damage is is something users like us can´t do. But what can I show them besides the traceroute to show that something is not working properly?

Be mindful that if your playing on a server in the US, the server could be overloaded. Many parts of the US are still shut down, meaning no one has any better thing to do. Also, as a result US providers are being hit HARD. Ive noticed slow down with my Comcast connection, and normally we dont see such slow downs. 

 

As mentioned above, the further you are from the server, the crappier the connection will get. While light travels fast, its still have to travel across a fiber cable that is on the bottom of the ocean and still have to find its way to the server when it gets to the US. 

 

Have you tried playing on local servers near you? On a second note, generally when packets exit your ISP's network, there is nothing you can do to fix issues. Because once they are outside of your ISP's network, they have no control over what happens to those packets. Keep in mind that just like your at the mercy of your ISP, your ISP is at the mercy of a backbone provider. These are providers who connect different geographical areas together. Such as Europe to the US and so forth.
