Adding Disk Shelf to PC

Hello Everyone,

 

I was looking to add a Disk Shelf to a data server of mine. Right now my group has 30TB of data on a custom build PC, which I run as a backup server. My group would like to expand the storage capacities with a Disk Shelf. I am unsure of what parts to use in order to connect my current host PC to my data server:

 

Host PC:

OS - Linux 18.04

File System - BTRFS (will not use unraid, freenas, or ZFS)

CPU - Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU G1840 @ 2.80GHz (it is an old server - we might upgrade this, but it is fine for what we use it for)

RAM - 8GB (might upgrade, but for now it is fine for out backups)

Motherboard:  Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.   H97M-HD3

Connecter Cables: I have no idea what cables I need

 

 

1) Does one use a Raid controller in order to connect a host PC to a Disk Shelf?

2) What cables do I need in order to connect my host PC to a Disk Shelf?

thats a hba, but thats what you want with btrfs.

 

Also thats way too pricy, get something like this

Those netapp ones use some interesting cables.
