So I'm a teen with the knowledge of building PCs but I have never physically done it (hopefully building one better then the Verge lol) but I am stuck on picking either a B550 or X570 motherboard for my new build.

I was thinking of reusing my RTX 2060 or switching to a RTX 3060 (or higher) as well as getting the supposedly Ryzen 5 "4600".

Can anyone help explain which chipset is better for my build and what should I go for please? I am not going to pick any motherboards yet for my build until I can decide on B550 or X570.

Many thanks!

depends, what x570 board and what b550 board? unless you need the gen 4 chipset lanes, b550 is as good as x570 really..

With X570 you're looking at PCIe 4.0 lanes right from the chipset and a little more USB bandwidth - that's basically the gist of it. For most people, B550 is more than enough.

Also, the advantage of B550 is that you're generally getting a better feature set/VRM for the money, compared to X570.

Desktop: Intel Core i9-9900K | ASUS Strix Z390-F | G.Skill Trident Z Neo 2x16GB 3200MHz CL14 | EVGA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER XC Ultra | Corsair RM650x | Fractal Design Define R6

Laptop: 2018 Apple MacBook Pro 13"  --  i5-8259U | 8GB LPDDR3 | 512GB NVMe

Peripherals: Leopold FC660C w/ Topre Silent 45g | Logitech MX Master 3 & Razer Basilisk X HyperSpeed | HIFIMAN HE400se & iFi ZEN DAC | Audio-Technica AT2020USB+

Display: Gigabyte G34WQC

I was not thinking about what brand or motherboard to get unless I can decide on either X570 or B550. I am really confused on which one is better both functionality and budget.

Unless you need lots of fast storage, get a B550 Pro4 or B550 TuF and call it a day

Oh, ok.

brand does not mean anything really. x570 just has gen 4 lanes from the chipset, other than that, b550 has really good vrm. and sometimes even better than x570.

a pro.

aorus pro.

steel legend.

depends on your budget, all of them are capable boards.

PC: Motherboard: ASUS B550M TUF-Plus, CPU: Ryzen 3 3100, CPU Cooler: Arctic Freezer 34, GPU: GIGABYTE WindForce GTX1650S, RAM: HyperX Fury RGB 2x8GB 3200 CL16, Case, CoolerMaster MB311L ARGB, Boot Drive: 250GB MX500, Game Drive: WD Blue 1TB 7200RPM HDD.
