I dont want to have to redownload like 3 terabytes in games and deal with windows os bs if it brings a lot more to the table maybe I will.

You wouldn’t have to reinstall any games. The hard drives will keep the downloads when moved to another motherboard. I believe that windows gets linked to your microsoft account instead of the hardware now so you shouldn’t have an issues activating it.

I have an i7 6700k on an asus z170k motherboard. I traded some stuff I did't want anymore on letgo for parts to build some more pcs I can use/backups and got an msi z270 pro motherboard wit much larger heat-sinks and more slots. I think its this one if not its a similar model https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/Z270-GAMING-PRO . Would I get a significantly better oc on this and would it be worth it for features and stuff? I dont want to have to redownload like 3 terabytes in games and deal with windows os bs if it brings a lot more to the table maybe I will. this is the z170-k https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/Z170-K/

I am far from an expert in this so please correct me if I’m wrong.

would I need to reinstall windows or would it be plug and play? I would be using the same gpu so no gpu driver issues.

I haven’t done it myself, but from what I have heard, all data (including the os) should be there and issues with windows activation sometimes happen but not as much anymore.

its a much nicer board so im really considering it, how much higher could I oc and whats the msi auto-overclock software like. Like im not trying to redo my system unless I will get a performance benefit or some crazy cool msi software thats even better than asus ai suite.

i’m not into over clocking so i don’t know how much/if it would overclock more. i also don’t know what the auto overclocking like but i’ve heard that its best to manually overclock as the automatic ones use more voltage than necessary.

Yea well I like auto oc for ram cuz that's hard, on my Asus motherboard I did auto overlcok settings and kept the ram setting that the auto overclock gave me then manually adjusted cpu clock speed and voltage.

Opinions are a dime a dozen, but I like Gigabyte, as in this webpage

Don't care for Asus or MSI, but that's just an opinion based on my individual experiences, also!

eh, I dont feel like moving everything around after I just got everything up and running if the msi boards cause problems even though it looks cool as hell. What types of problems did you experience? it is like a 300 dollar msi board vs like a 100 dollar asus board(prices a few years ago).

I've only owned one and yes, I agree.  Quality and configuration (ease of swapping out CPU and RAM, etc) just not there in comparison with Gigabyte, IMO.
