MacBook's new gate? or MacBook just crashing?

Okay so, I brought a MacBook in 2018, it was a 15 inch 256 GB 16gb model and it did cost me a fortune, and it's MRP Rs. 224000(around 2900-3000 USD). I basically brought it so that I could code on Xcode and stuff. So, it worked fine for almost a year and a half and now a couple of days ago, while I was watching Netflix, the screen just froze and nothing happened, not even the cursor moving, the body was not hot, the mac had no background processes running, and I kind of plugged in the battery charging like 10 mins ago. So when nothing happened, I used the power button to force shutdown the mac, and then, it never booted again. I have had no physical damages, liquid spills, or basically the damage of any kind. I took it to the service center and they told me that the motherboard is damaged, and it will cost around, Rs, 80,000(1073 USD). WTF did just happened, and I am a programmer, and it's just all gone. but the mysterious thing is, just 2 or 3 days ago, a similar thing happened with my friend(2019,15inch 256gb 16gb model), who was like 400kms away from me, we both submitted the MacBooks together and they reported similar damage. just a coincidence?

Probably, not sure.

What do you do on your computer? do you live in a hot climate? I am assuming you don't have apple care.

Did they tell if what in the Mobo is damaged? a blown off cap?

In modern macbooks almost everything is just soldered to the motherboard so "the motherboard is damaged" is a pretty common answer... not much you can do there other than buy from a company that lets you troubleshoot your own hardware and replace parts without throwing out 90% of the machine.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

sudo chmod -R 000 /*

hey!

1. We, do live in a hot climate, but since because of the lock down, i haven't moved my MacBook outside my place for more or less 5 months and both me and friend live in air conditioned rooms, in fact when this happened, the air conditioner was pretty much working and room was cold enough.

2. No, they did not even mention, what exactly is wrong with my motherboard, just damaged.

3. Both me and my friend had a compute update though, couple of days ago.

4. At the time of crash no external device was attached, except for the charger.

5. Narrating my personal experience, i guess the laptop's battery drained, i plugged in the charger, it powered up again and everything was normal and after some time, this happened.

Please let me know if anyone can help me diagnose what exactly went wrong?

Thank you!

that's your fault. macOS has the ebst backup solution out of any desktop OS built in. use it.

is it a humid climate by any chance? because that's bad for electronics. now, it doesn't excuse this at all since it's not bad enough to just make a computer randomly die, but in my opinion this is a coincidence. the 2018's have known flaws, those being keyboard and display flexgate. the keyboard failing wouldn't cause this, however if it's flexgate the display backlight could stop working, causing the display to obviously turn black. a way to diagnose that is either shine a bright light on the display and see if you can see anything on the screen or plug in an external display.

now, since they said that the board is damaged i assume that it's just a coincidence, since the 2018's do not have any known fatal motherboard flaws. this could happen to any computer, it's jsut a shame it's happened to you. if you still have warranty i'd take advantage of it and get the Mac repaired.

Damn, that sucks. Your best bet if to ether get another computer, or repair it if you need a OSX system. unless you really need OSX, its not worth it, the macs right now are not the best engineered machines. If you can get a desktop+ laptop solution, especially if you rely on this computer for livelihood.

To be honest poorly cooled electronics+ hot climate is not the best combo.

Yeah, looking at the small sample size, but can you imagine another engineering failure? its like a all you can eat buffet of dumb decision in one computer.
