Clean freaks beware!

Jason 57

Disclaimer, this is another LONG post by me.

Well not as long as I thought because I can't upload all the photos.

As I posted before, I built a new PC for my son who graduated this year and is off to college this fall.

So his previous PC was about 5 years old, and my PC was a couple of years older than that. Here are some photos I took with an old Point and Shoot camera. So my image stabilization isn't the best.

I am going to provide specs where I can.

The 5 year old computer had the following components:

AMD Athlon X4 860K Kaveri Quad-Core 3.7 GHz Socket FM2+ 95W AD860KXBJABOX Desktop Processor (BLACK EDITION)

ASRock A88M-G/3.1 FM2+ / FM2 A88X (Bolton D4) Micro ATX Motherboard

G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL

SanDisk SSD PLUS 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) SDSSDA-240G-G25

MSI GeForce GT 740 DirectX 12 N740-2GD3 2GB 128-Bit DDR3 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready Plug-in Card Video Card

Cooler Master Silent 600W 80+ Bronze PSU

I forgot what kind of case it was. I did always like the way they made it pretty much tooless.

This is why you build a PC with a glass side panel and keep it up on your desk. That way you know when your PC is getting dusty and you'll be bugged by the desire to clean it out (unless you're some monster who likes watching the dust accumulate in your build). I clean out my PC around once a month, but my room is particularly dusty for some reason so I probably have to do it more often than other people.

I mostly speak from my own past experience from similar problems. My solution may not work for you, but I'll always try my best to help as much as I can. If you want me to see your reply, make sure to quote my comment or mention me @WaggishOhio383, and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.

*this why you use sufficient amount of fans, fan filters and correct fan curves. Not everyone needs to look inside their computer case.

True, but fans and filters can't stop all the dust. It's still going to build up over time even if it takes longer. And then with a closed case if you aren't intentionally opening up your PC every once and a while you won't even notice it.

Did you ever clean it at all that has to be least 2 years worth of dust

No it was never cleaned in 5 years.

This sat on the floor (engineered hard flooring) and we have 4 cats.
