CPU temps while gaming spike

Hello,

I am new to the PC world and just built my an itx PC. After a week of building my PC I started to play death stranding and I noticed my CPU temps spike from 68 to 81 but then shot back down. I thought it was bad thermal past so I redid it and used a different tube. Still the same problem. Any thoughts of what it could be. Gpu is fine and stable at 64. I under volt my CPU and set it at 1.33 as well. If anyone can help me understand it would be of great help.

My PC.

Ryzen 3900x

Asus Rog Strix x570 I

Ek Aio 120 mm

Sfx 600

2070 super founders edition

Noctua NT-H2 thermal paste

sounds like normal temp for a 3900x

the spike may be caused by the game loading in things, causing a spike in cpu usage

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

Hello,

Thanks for the reply. I watch videos online and their 3900x temps look so stable and only move up about 5 degrees and back down. Never do I see it spike 10-15 and shot down. Being new to the PC world I get worries because I get scared when it hits 81 but it does shot back down fast.

It's an itx case and a 120 aio.

If it starts hitting 90+ degrees is when I would start worrying.

Any recommendations for improvements? It's not a mini itx. I have an Phanteks Evolv shift air with the mesh sides.

They're perfectly fine temps.

Ok thanks for the help, I really appreciate it.

But if anyone else has or ideas / improvements I would love to hear them.

My friend gave me his old ram would that be causing part of the problem? I'm new that this PC stuff so I'm just throwing ideas out.

Unless you wanna go buy a big cooler that probably won't fit on an ITX board or setup a custom water loop there won't be much more you can do to lower temps, however they shouldn't be causing any throttling or issues so I wouldn't worry about it.

seems good, if u start losing max clocks then change it to -.05v, basically a -.05v offset is always better than stock

u can try -.1 first and see how much clock u lose on load, (~ 100mhz), some chips don't lose any clocks, some chips do, it's a lottery. -.05 would still improve temps regardless.

Not sure what you mean by load. I'm assuming how much MHz I lose when I'm at 100% per core. I ran 3 cinebench and the score was close to the dark red which was the auto oc I set in ryzen master with -.01 offset. Light red is with -.01 normal no oc.

Thanks you for your help. It looks like it worked I spiked to 74 but that's was as high as it gets. I floated around 66 the entire hour or so. Also I got the best Heaven as of yet. Thanks for everything again.

np, it's really up to amd and mobo vendors to set the correct voltages, the higher voltages works better for the 3600 and 3700x with less cores, but it's ridiculous for a 3900x lol. 66-74C is really nice for a 3900x 😄 u can still try turning on pbo in bios while leaving that negative offset to see if the boost clocks are higher, if u don't like the temps just turn pbo back off.
