Help picking parts for a budget build

Budget (including currency): ≈$600-700USD


Country: US

 

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Code editing and non demanding games like Minecraft 

 

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I am upgrading from a Gateway SX2851-41 with a i3-550 and 4gb ram so I need to upgrade

I always try to go for the strongest cpu the budget will allow for as it is the last part you want to upgrade since it can sometimes mean a motherboard and ram upgrade too, from all the builds I have done for myself and others getting the stronger of the two cpu options we have looked at always seems to be the better choice
