Different route with current build

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): So after having large pc cases for a while I want to go a different route. I'd like to reuse as much as I can. I know Mobo wont transfer over. I've never really looked into SFF cases. My biggest concern is that I have the i9-9900k which is a very hot chip. I'd like to keep that and be able to cool it. I'd also like to keep a full size GPU. The case will have to be great with thermals. As far as keeping fans I'm not against new ones. Right now I have a bunch of Thermaltake TT Riings. With less space I'd be fine with going to Noctua. I'd like to get away from obscene amounts of RGB. It gets tiring at night having my monitors dimmed but super bright RGB next to them. The whole small case world is new to me. Smaller the better, but because of the heat my CPU puts out I don't want to be stuck with that. Currently it's on an AIO. I'm not against going watercooling if that's necessary. Custom loop would also be a new thing for me but with my current work schedule I have plenty of time to do it piece by piece. Most of my storage is m.2. I do have a HDD for overflow, but realistically there isn't much on it. When I do a transplant I'd be formatting drives and reinstalling Windows anyway so HDD tray isn't that necessary, but a bonus. I really like the look of the Steck with the stack bundle,  the Mjolnir and the ghosts1. I'm not in a huge rush to do this and am fine waiting on a case that is small batch made and preorder only. I haven't really started looking at cases yet but will be throughout the day. Any ideas or tips would be appreciated.

This could be a good option as it would support your 240mm AIO, but ITX builds are the way to go! 

If you still want to keep your PSU you are really limited, this is one of the few options that will fit your hardware but not quiet SFF:

However the biggest issue is the combo of your large GPU and 240mm AIO, this eliminates a ton of the ITX options. if you can part  with your AIO and PSU I would recommend these:

The Ncase M1 is really nice, as is the Loque Ghost S1, but you would have to check how your GPU fit's in those.

So when I built this pc it was kind of an impulse buy. I built it right before the Supers came out. I don't see myself upgrading to 3xxx or a 10xxx series with the refresh. I knew I was getting ready to buy a house and was more worried about having a pc that would last a few years. I'm not completely against starting over to get a small case. I'd much rather have the convince of that if I can keep overall usability. (AAA titles, very very occasional video editing.) I could take my time and piece things together. I'm not against switching to AMD if it helps with cooling and overall productivity. I went with the i9 because "Best Intel had and I've not messed with AMD before." I'm open to piecing together a full platform over time. Waiting on GPU for 3000 series to come out so 2000 series drop unless there is a huge upgrade to 3000 with better hardware. I can build a new pc over time and sell the one I have. 

I'm not against a new PSU I know my current one is overkill, but I almost wonder if at a certain point it does make sense to just start fresh. If I don't start fresh, my girlfriend wants to build a pc when she gets back to work to get away from a laptop. Anything that's not reused for my system can go to her. If I do start fresh it makes more sense to sell my current pc minus drives.

Yeah I get the impulse buy thing, if you are willing to wait though I think it would be a great idea. As for Nvidia pricing, dropping current gen pricing prior to a launch is not really a thing, they slow down the manufacturing process, then stop, and by the time e new gen is reacdy to be released old stock is nearly dried up. I've rarely seen this happen, especially in the case of Nvidia and Intel.

If it was me and I wanted a fresh start I would sell that entire system now while it is still mostly current, do a few months without a build and then build a new system when RTX 3xxx launches. 

 

I'm sure a good mid-range R5 3600 build would be good for your girlfriend. As for new CPU's if all you do is game get the i5-10600k, you can get 10900k levels of gaming performance out of it.

That i5 looks really impressive. With waiting for 30 series to come out, would there be a "safe" way to piece this together? Just go through and do pretty much everything except the video card now? I do have a 1070 I can throw in this for now, but it'd be another full size card. As far as PSU goes from just the quick reading I've done on the 30 series would it be wise to get that now(I know I'm asking you a lot of crystal ball questions, just bouncing ideas off you). Just get one with extra headroom for what looks like it'll be a more power hungry card?

Yeah I'm considering 10600k myself for a 1440p/4k gaming build. If you have a 1070 then yeah go ahead build it now, I mean a 10600k also has integrated graphics, you can't really game on it but you can get it all setup without a GPU.

 

I mean even a 10900k with a 2080Ti is only going to draw 375-400W max under load. A 600W SFX PSU would be perfect with headroom for any GPU pairing.

ITX motherboards are pretty loaded, they only support 2 memory slots though. I would look at the Asus Z490I or MSI Z490I for an Intel build.

Nice the NR200 is solid, has an optional TG panel as well. You can order custom length cables from cable mod even, I would say it is definitely worth it. And a custom loop would be really cool in that case. It's a project but I say do it !

I did some poking around on a SFF forums. Sounds like the i9 isn't all that bad to cool in an ITX case if you don't go too small going to give that a go. Ordering a Z390-i and a SF 600 now.

Nice! Yeah most modern SFF ITX cases have good ventilation. I'm looking to possibly upgrade from my SG13 but my requirements are very exact so I haven't found anything perfect yet. The NR200 is very close though, personally I just wished it was a bit smaller.

I ended up going with the TG panel in addition to the normal side for some options. There is some really cool stuff with SFF ITX and I wish I could get away from large GPUs, maybe later I will. I plan on doing a good build thread with this one. My last build, I wanted to, but then parts showed up and went in the case far too quickly. I almost waited for the Dan A4. It's considerably smaller than the NR200 at 7.2L. Not sure how much space you need or how long you're willing to wait for a case.

Ordering parts got me really excited to go down the small pc road.

I'm in no rush, but I want a single TG panel, room for a dual slot dual fan GPU (GTX 1080), 120mm AIO and at least 1 more fan, in under 15L. Those are my must have requirements.

Well, back to the drawing board or wait for a motherboard. Just got an email from the seller of my motherboard that due to the current pandemic, they are out of stock and not sure when they will get stock of the ROG 390-I that I was going to go with. 

Anyone have suggestions on good ITX mobos for 9th gen Intel? I was going to stick with the Asus Rog line because I know it and it's treated me well here. I'm open to suggestions. 2 m.2 slots is my biggest thing to keep everything compact.
