First PC Build

Country: New Zealand

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Cyberpunk 2077 + Future-proofing for 1-2 years of gaming, general admin and youtube.

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): 

I have a NZXT H510 ATX Mid Tower on the way already. No other pats have been purchased as of yet.

A 1440p monitor will be needed but is excluded from build price. Feel free to suggest one.

Upgrading from a prebuilt from ~6 years ago. 8gb ram, 4gb graphics, isn't really cutting it any more.

Aiming for playing 1440p @ 144hz

I am able to buy parts immediately but am not in any rush as i wouldn't mind waiting for Nvidia 3000 series cards.

^ put a 2080S in there mostly for price referencing, but waiting for Ampere/RDNA2 would be the way to go.

 

I also put the Meshify C in the list since the H510 really isn't ideal for airflow, so unless you're absolutely set on keeping it for the build, then a Meshify C or Phanteks P300A/P400A would be better for cooling.

Also threw in the VG27AQ in there as a very solid 1440p 144Hz monitor, but the 27GL850-B picked by @Ed-petit is also a great choice.

A much better CPU, SSD and power supply. With your budget it's pure insanity to go for a lower end part and a power supply that is three times more than what you need. The better option, as has been suggested, is getting the better quality 550W RMX as the entire system won't even go over 400W

Well, it depends. I don't see the CPU or GPU (especially if you go with a 2080-level next-gen GPU when they launch later this year) falling behind a whole lot for gaming, though you obviously can't predict how the industry will evolve, but if we're to go by the past few years, I'd say a 3700X and a 2080 Super (though, again, wait for Ampere/RDNA2) will be solid for quite a while.

I normally have 32GB in my system but I'm currently on just a single 16GB stick and even with all the RAM hogging tabs of Chrome in the background and other junk, I still don't run out of memory. But then again, you might be a lighter user than me, as in you might have less stuff open in the background for example, so you might be totally fine with 16GB for more than just 1-2 years.

If the prices have gone back to normal now in NZ, sure. But generally now's not the best time to buy parts as they tend to be more on the overpriced side compared to normal pricing.

AMD's also set to release Zen 3 CPUs later this year, but the date on that is even more vague than on their next-gen GPUs. Keep in mind that if you build the system now, but without a graphics card, you still won't be able to use it unless you have another GPU lying around - Ryzen CPUs don't have an iGPU, so you can't get a display out of them.
