Help!! Asus charging more that i brought the laptop for to repair it

asus is charging $1730 AUD for my rog strix g531gt the part that broke on it is the dc port to charge it i bought the laptop for $1599 aud can they do this? I dont what i can do. am i stuck with a $1599 paperweight

What is their reasoning for $1730? Is it international shipping, because if so, not much can be done.

no they sent it to the closest asus repair shop which is down the road from me so it isnt shipping they sent the laptop back to me for free after diagnosing the problem which i chose not to get it repaired

I mean is it just a loose cable, something needs to be resoldered, something needs to be replaced, or something else?

sometimes as explained in the video on refurbished goods, sometimes to repair certain parts of electronics, it will cost more than a brand new unit. If you had the unit for a while at this point, I would just buy a new laptop. If this laptop is fairly recent, you could try and ask for a price breakdown and other's on the forum can help you

it needs to be replaced a piece of plastic that was in the dc jack broke off  into the the charger so it needs to be replace i have tried fixing it myself but cant

the laptop was from late 2019 i brought new

Should probably look for a 3rd party to repair it, with a quote like that from Asus.

Like others said, I would try a different repair shop and see what they say. If they cant for cheaper, either try and buy a replacement part and try to do it yourself or sell it for parts (or as broken).

i went to a 3rd party to repair it first but they said they couldn't get the part.

If it's literally just the connector broken and nothing else on the mobo, one could easily just swap the connector on both the mobo and the charger to a different one. Might have to cut some of the plastic shell of the laptop to fit a different connector there, but eh, it'd be cheaper than buying a new laptop.

i couldn't do it myself but i did ask the repair shops if they could put a different connector in but they refused

Oh? That's pretty silly; if a customer is willing to accept the risk, why refuse? Oh well, I suppose you don't have a lot of choices then.

update asus agreed to repair the motherboard they said the reasoning for the first quote was because they had to replace the motherboard which included cpu and gpu
