Will a motherboard swap affect my CPU overclock?

Hello,

 

I'm currently using a Ryzen 3700x with a b350 mainboard and I wanted to upgrade to a b550 mainboard.

 

Will this change affect my overclock, or will I be able to achieve the same Clock Speed as I have right now? (I haven't decided yet which mainboard I will buy, but i definitely want one with decend overclocking potential)

Yes, a motherboard can affect the potential overclock of a CPU.

But not necessarily... And Ryzen doesn't tend to have a lot of OC room to begin with. @Recorsi What is your current OC?

OC will be different, but in most cases it should improve or stay the same (no point in swapping if it makes it worse)

depends 

which b350 and which b550 board ? if anything it'll be better and it should not affect it. 

but if your current overclock is stable. dont change the platform. either way, ryzen chips do not benefit a whole lot from overclocking and they dont have a big headroom to begin with.

Are you satisfied with your OC. Yes, then don't change the board.

Worst case would be buying that B550 and OC is worse compared to your B350, or you don't gain much OC for what you've spend on the board.

 

Decent B550 are near in the upper $170ish range with some over $200+.

Spend $200+ on a B550 and you only gain an extra 100MHz in OC compared to your B350 isn't worth it.
