New PC build need help

Hi, I am currently building a new PC to replace my Asus ROG laptop. Its been a while since I build one so there are a lot of things that I am unfamiliar with.

 

Budget (including currency): 500 British Pounds (GBP)

Country: United Kingdom

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: AAA gaming and casual browsing and light photoshop editing (no editing/twitch/youtube streaming)

Existing Parts: Acer Nitro 21.5 inch Full HD 75 Hz monitor, keyboard and mouse.

Additional info:

• I will not be overclocking.
• Upgrade not needed as will be using this for minimum 2 years.
• Open for both worlds of team RED (AMD) and team BLUE (Intel).
• Present or for the next 2 years I want to be able to play games at minimum 60fps on Medium settings (the least I want to go).
• Budget can use anything under +50 British Pounds (GBP).

If you want new parts, you will probably have to settle for an AMD APU for a bit. £500 isn't really enough without buying a used rx580/570

Edit: initially though you wouldn't have enough for a discrete gpu, however pricing is decent so it's possible

Agrrr. An APU can help me now but I sure it won't in the coming years.

 

Edit: Also I thought the new gen 3100 or 3300x were a lot cheaper if paired with a non unlockable motherboard such as A320m..... I could be wrong.

I would like to know just about why did you use 500 W here and not 450? Is it because of the APU and RX both giving heat? And without 1 the 450 W would do just fine?

This is actually quite a nice system. 

As far as future capabilities, the quad core may struggle, you will need more storage, and 4GB Vram isn't really enough. However, for now it's pretty good.

I really would advise buying a used RX580 8GB. Can be got for under £150 and will perform as well as the 1650S, whilst also giving you twice the vram. I bought my rx580 used and ive had no issues.

As for PSU, it's actually a very good unit, but it's only a little more than others at the moment, and this will give you plenty of expansion room before it needs upgraded.

Actually in a couple titles you can run the iGPU and the dGPU in crossfire for a decent performance increase, when supported. I remember people were doing this with their A10 chips and R7 250 GPUs in 2014 and were getting R9 280 performance sometimes.

Definitely go b450. The Pro4 is a decent board that will support higher end chips if you want to upgrade to say a 3600 in the future.

I'm not entirely sure which is better, but they are very similar, so the extra vram should be beneficial in some titles. AMDs driver optimization for the 580 has been excellent as well

450W would be adequate, but that TXM unit is such a good deal and will last you a long time

 

Edit: I've tried to pick parts that will last a while and give you plenty of space to upgrade in the future

Wouldn't recommend it but with a 65w chip it's not the end of the world. But B450 boards aren't much more expensive. The cheapest Am4 boards are around 45, the cheapest B450 board now is 50 pounds https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/DWw7YJ/biostar-b450mh-micro-atx-am4-motherboard-b450mh

Also, the B450 boards will support the upcoming 4th gen ryzen chips. The A320 boards will not. So when you eventually upgrade, you'll have more options.

It's a 65w chip, the stock cooler will be fine, although if you don't need a keyboard and mouse, I would get that Biostar b450 board and a Ryzen 3 3100 instead.

I would say AMD is the way to go. With B450 you have plenty of future upgrade options, as well as memory and CPU overclocking support

@NZgamer I was mistaken about the increase in performance, but I remember seeing a video of an APU being crossfired with a low-end GPU - maybe it was an R7 260x or an R9 270. I'll keep looking, this is the only one I had bookmarked.

But I am not going to upgrade nor overclock.

 

I will be using this for the next 2 years playing games at minimum medium settings needing minimum 60fps with that monitor I have mentioned in the OP.

GPU's significantly faster than an RX 580. CPU should be about on par with a Ryzen 3100 here, because you're still going to be GPU bound. Overall should perform better than the 3100+580 combo, and you also get a 480GB SSD.

Power supply is good too. B-tier.
