What is the exact error Steam gives you?

It's a disk write error followed by a random file. I will get it to pop up again tonight; I was able to download the file via- C drive install and tried to transfer within steam from library on C to another drive, it wasn't progressing. I used windows file explorer; and did a copy/paste  (116gb file for R6) it's went VERY quickly for about 60 gb and the second half of the transfer has been under way for over 5 hours.

Only things I can thinking off the top of my head is try re-installing Steam or your boot drive might be failing.

I'll look-up the error message you get when you have it.

So I did do a fresh install of steam and then last night even did a system "reset"  I've had no errors on chkdsk /f  or sfc scannow  I even checked the drives with samsung magician and crystaldisk info, nothing stood out.

I also find it odd that I can download to the C drive from steam library but not any other drive.

I have had similar issues in the past where LARGE games over 60gb fail steam downloads especially on secondary drives... It really confuses and aggravates me.

I can't think that I've saturated the lanes for data with 2 m.2's 2 ssds

Did you try clearing your Steam Download Cache?

Pulling a suggestion off Reddit:

Quote

What you need to do is go to the stemapps/common folder on the drive you are installing the game on and delete the file outside the game folders with the name of the game that gets disk write error. Hope this helped :) The error usually occurs when the download is finished, when Steam tries to move the game files from the downloading folder to common, there sometimes already is a file with the name of the game (failed attempt to create a folder?) and steam is somehow unable to move the files.

I did try to delete the file it named; such ass r6/ubi/xxxxxx.textures.002   or whatever it was, it was the most recent file in the 38550 folder ( i think thats what it was called, under downloads)    so the path was steamapps/common/downloads/{filename}

Are you suggesting looking inside the steamapps/common/{game}/{filename}

Not sure. I haven't used Steam in a long time so I'm just Googling the problem and offering the suggestions I'm seeing other people give those people.

IIRC if game files are missing Steam will re-download them so perhaps yes /{game}/{file-name}. Will admit that suggestion was about 4 years old. Directories probably changed.
