So I recently put a gtx 1650 into my old pre built office computer and I tested it out with csgo and seemed to be find I was a bit worried because it got to 100 degrees C so i decided to replace the thermal paste, I did a pea size and tried to put back the stock intel cooler I tried again but the pc still rebooted, Ive tried multiple games black ops 3, rust, csgo all goes to 100 degrees c

I think I might need to clean out the cooler and add more fans onto the case but I dont know.

I have a intel i5 2400 cpu

420W Psu

the stock intel coolers Is a bit dusty.

Does your case have enough airflow?

If so you might want to get a new cooler altogether. The Intel stock coolers aren’t very good and since you’re using an i5 2400 it sounds like you’ve had it a pretty long time.

remove the cooler and remount it.

a 2400 and 1650 should be fine on a 420 and shouldn't put out much heat

what prebuilt is it so we know how much space we got?

Its AIR cooling, not water cooling.

That tiny cooler SHOULD still cover its needs if the fan isnt defunct.

But if it has failed that Hyper 212 you displayed would work wonders..

Its a 65w cooler.

Well after 9 years there is a good likelihood something is wrong with it if his temps are causing reboots.

It does if he’s getting 100C+ temps.

Plus that cooler allows him to upgrade his CPU later and use the same cooler.

Bad mounting pressure is likely, not the cooler.

After 9 years the METAL doesn't change.

Mounting pressure is the likely cause of high temps with new paste.

no it means more than likely bad paste or bad mount. and given they aren't sure they mounted it right step 1 is remount and check

Thats normal.

45-50*c idle is expected on a stock cooler at idle for most 2nd gen cpus (they declock on idle, clock up for apps)

If its ALWAYS on the 60*c idle its probably still a bad mounting pressure based installation

If ypu had say... the Hyper212 id hazard 30-35*x idle and much less load temps (say 55-65*c somewhere)

If you do get a new fan try to find one that you can still use even if you upgrade the CPU in the future. It may cost a bit more but it will save you money in the long run.
