the extra stick of ram will do more than any overclocking you can do, with your motherboard i recommend 3.8 all core max (so you've already achieved it), the only thing i'd try now is a ram overclock or lower the cpu voltage as long as it's stable.

Not in every case, but typically you need to loosen the timings to get higher Mhz,

the relationship works like this Cas/Mhz x 1000 = access time in ns as remember RAM is storage just like a hard drive or SSD.

CAS 11/1600MHz = .0069s or 69ns
CAS 9/1600MHz = .0056s or 56ns
CAS 11/1866MHz = .0059s or 59ns

So if I have 2400mhz with CAS 17 i do 17/1200 x 1000 = 14ns(approx) right?

oof , thats a lot of ns

Yeahs C17 is stupidly loose timing for 2400Mhz. That's some really bad RAM.

close but you're off a 0, 17/1200 = .0141 so its 141ns

definitely got my ns conversion wrong in my previous post, too bad at math and too tired lol

also tbh i only kinda know what im talking about with ram, very confusing stuff imo

woah no im a moron, im the one whos off by a 0, you are right its 14ns lol also the other ones were 6.9 5.6 and 5.9 ns

so you are saying i should lower cpu volts after OC to 3.8ghz ?? wont that reduce the cpu performance ? (i thought i had to increase votls to improve performance)

If you dont mind , can you explain VRMs ? and how will i be able to burn them? I have been running my CPU at 3.75 (sometimes 3.85 Ghz) constantly since 5 months. I did notice my entire PC freeze from time to time , and only soln was to press the reset button , was it a result of unstable OC? ( although the freeze happens like very rarely , happened like 4-5 times till now)

Pardon, but you are saying that you are overclocking to 3.8ghz on A320 chipset?

If this is factual, don't ever update the bios. You may loose that feature.

lmao i actually considered updating the bios , but left it because it was too much hassle.

It's all about power and thermals. It depends on what your limiting factor is. More volts equals more heat, so yes, though it may seem counter-intuitive, overclocking sometimes means undervolting. Once the CPU has enough volts for the clock, anything over that is just extra heat, that will keep it from clocking higher.

I read about some A320 board that OC'ed back in 2017. I took only a small interest because I had one. I recently gave it to my brother for his needs. I've never been able to OC on it. It's an Asus prime.

Yea, don't update the bios in fear of loosing OC control!! :P

FWIW, the product page at Gigabyte mentions overclocking, though only in passing in reference to a auto optimization feature they have. I think they just ignored the fact that A320 isn't supposed to overclock for their purposes, which has the side effect of unlocking it for yours. Still, a BIOS update could always change that.

Well essentially the board does overclock. If the Cpu boosts past it's max P-state, that's an overclock.

It's neat that he has control of the cpu multiplier. Kinda jealous actually lol.

I think only the Gigabyte MOBOs have the OC multiplier , because a quick google search later , i realized that a320 is not meant for OC , yet i see the option .
