Will electrical tape accumulate static electricity if against power supply?

Hey so this might sound like a dumb question but, I have a pretty decent power supply but it’s silver and a side of it sticks out like a sore thumb in my black case, last night I covered it’s side with some strips of electrical tape to cover the exposed part, would this be of any harm to the power supply due to static electricity? I know that the tape is against conduction.

Depends on the tape. It shouldn't really matter here, but the average black electrical tape does not prevent static. There are Anti-Static/ESD control tapes for this purpose specifically but honestly I don't think that's needed for your usecase. You might be better off painting the PSU black where you want.

The PSU is grounded, no static electricity will build up on it or anything touching it regardless. Static electricity also requires the movement and build up of charge, and while this can happen via air movement, charge build up on a piece of electrical tape is miniscule compared to a big lump of plastic like a GPU shroud, and GPU shrouds aren't shocking components. On the other hand, removing electrical tape can actually induce very strong static, though once again not on a grounded object like a PSU.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
