Hard drive cutting out while downloading files/copying files from it

MrPrivilege

My first instinct was a motherboard connecter issue, but I changed it over and it still cuts out whenever I tried downloading anything. my best guess now is a power issue but I don't want to buy a new power supply only for it to keep cutting out. any ideas?

it disconnects and its not visible anymore in file explorer, anything that was downloading gets corrupted. I also know it not a virus because I have fresh installed windows recently.

this all started after the fist drive I had died when I accidentally kicked my PC, and I got a new bigger one.

Have tested the drive with another pc?

Two issues I see are power or the drive is dying.

What is the drive model? SSD or HDD?

Actually list all you specs so we can get a larger picture, it may help.

exactly the same comments as sansvarnic, except if you don't have another pc at hand try getting a cheap hard drive caddy with external power

If it still happens after replacing the SATA cable and testing it in a USB caddy, it may be the SATA or Power connector on the HDD itself, it may have dry joints in the soldering. Or perhaps the HDD's controller board has a bad capacitor or something.
