Hey all, I was watching Paul’s hardware channel when YouTube ran an ad under it for a Sony bitcoin giveaway.

The channel actually has the name Sony. I can’t tell if it has any spaces in the name or non display able characters but if you search for it it is the first result for Sony.

The channel only has 1 video up and it is supposedly from Sony CEO doing a giveaway. They have a code to scan to send them bitcoin to be entered in the drawing. Obviously this was suspicious so I did a search and sure enough this type of Bitcoin scam is a recent thing. There were other channels that popped up also related to the PlayStation doing the Bitcoin giveaway scam. There was also a super popular Elon Musk scam for Bitcoin that took in millions.

I reported the video as spam but there is no scam option. The channel has no about page so I can’t report the channel itself.

Anyone know how to report this to get it taken down? I didn’t want to share a screenshot of the code so someone here doesn’t get scammed.

If you go to the video, don’t send them money.

The channel seems to have gone away. Not sure if on it’s own or by an action by YouTube. It no longer shows up in search results.

Guessing by how successful the other scams have been, these scammers undoubtedly made off with lots of people’s money.

At the low end, they were asking for 0.1 Bitcoin. Even that is a lot of money considering the exchange rate.

This one surprised me showing up in an advertisement. It looked semi almost real but when looking at the channel and seeing it only had that 1 video with low views, ya it raised all kinds of red flags.

Yup, it clearly looks scam and funny how many people falls under this trap. A fox news logo, sony playstation logo on the PP, and millions of giveaway. I wonder which fortune 500 company does this?
