Hey everyone! New here, and I didn’t find a category that looked best to post this question, so I’m posting in general. Let me know if there’s a better place to move this.

I’m fairly confident in building machines, and have some experience with prior PC builds, however, one of the biggest things I haven’t had experience in (or know too much about) is POST’ing and Benchmark testing.

 

Obviously frame rate testing high graphic games is always a good idea, but the main question is this: What am I looking for in POST, benchmark software, load testing, etc when it comes to a new PC?

 

Obviously I assume there’s plenty of YouTube videos that go through this as well, but I don’t exactly know what I’m looking for.

 

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Depending on what information you're looking to gather and what you're looking to do with those statistics you can look into programs like Unigine Benchmarks, Crystal Disk Mark, Fraps, 3DMark Time Spy, Cinebench R15, ATTO Disk Benchmark, among others.

 

These can give you relative disk performance, CPU performance under a synthetic load, FPS for games, etc.

These are my go-to's after building a PC, using HWMonitor or HWInfo to monitor the PC itself while running benches.

 

CineR20 will punish your CPU with calculations and heat

CineR15 similar

Prime95 will punish everything - unrealistic workload.  If it survives 15 minutes of this without thermal throttling or crashing you (basically) have a stable PC

Heaven to ensure GPU is running well

Firestrike to compare PCs
