Sennheiser HD800 Amp/dac

My friend has money coming out every extremity and wants to buy a pair of HD800's because.... why not. We were both curious as to their quality but we'd need a kickass amp/dac combo. What would be the best one considering price that wouldn't bottleneck these?

My System Specs: (Short list) i7 4770k, GTX 780, many SSD's, a 2 TB HDD(deceased :( ), Corsair 650D. Full list: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/kchriz6097/saved/8dh7YJ

Upgrade Plan: Acquire some Black Noctuas then add 16 or 32GB of 2133MHz memory

Would you be open to something less suck then HD800's?

Schiit has some good AMP/DACs. O2 is also a very good choice. Also maybe just get the HE500i?

He is pretty stuck onto buying the HD800's

I'd rather get headphones that don't cost an arm and a leg, when they could've cost just a nipple, they're at an amazingly low value. There are headphones that sound almost as good (if not better in your opinions) for much less ca$h.

Such as HiFiMAN HE-500. or Sennheiser HD650 or 600 if you wanna go Sennheiser. or if you don't want to spend a lot, Pioneer SE-A1000 supposedly sound just as good as HD650's, and they're like 50$ on amazon at the moment. I have some on the way actually, excited to test them. And if you want / need a dac and amp, one of the best solutions out there is the ODAC and o2 amp.

He has the HD650 and, like I said, has money spewing out his anus. Sorry for the late response, I had to write an essay after I posted it :P.

I hate friends like that....(Tell him to get LCD-X's then, similar price and not as poorly priced, and most importantly, not hateful to use and listen too.

Ouch.....

Its not a bad mic and considering he's willing to sell it for $200 to me I might as well hop on it. I will probably need one like that at some point in my filming career.

Tell him to get the HE-500s and that the HD800s are treble heavy and poorly constructed for $1500.  If he's gotta have fancy looking stuff, LCD-2 or X or something like that.

"Pardon my French but this is just about the most ignorant blanket statement I've ever read. And though this is the internet, I'm not even exaggerating."

Well, if he have the money to spend, why not go for the Sennheiser HDVD 800 (the DAC/AMP made for the headphones).

If he is truly serious he should get the balanced cable as well (Sennheiser CH800 XLR-cable).

Wait what, this post is from 2014. How'd i get here...

Anyway, did he buy the HD800s?

...
