Which Ryzen 9 CPU to get?

For the last 2 years i've had my B350-F gaming motherboard and have always been looking forward to upgrading to a Ryzen 9, I currently have a Ryzen 7 2700x. My question is which Ryzen 9 should I be looking at? I only game on my computer, but more on that I play BDO. Which with that game I have the game always open, but minimized, while I play other games. Been playing a lot of Escape from Tarkov at the same time. So I don't know if that changes anything about which CPU you guys would suggest, but i'm open to hear what you guys have to say!

1. Board is too weak for any Ryzen 9

2. Ryzen 9 for solely gaming is a complete waste of money

3. If you dont use a high refresh rate monitor, then even a 2700x is sufficient. These games dont need the highest of frame rates.

There are other things to spend money on (mobo, RAM, GPU) before the CPU.

Are you going for more FPS? and if so I'd like to know the usage you hit on your ryzen 7 CPU as you probably don't need a 9 in my opinion. If you have money go for a better GPU instead of that. CPU won't give you a huge boost. Plus a B350 even a high-end one isn't any good for ryzen 9 as those CPUs weren't even out when the board launched.

Ok so I apologize for being dumb. I forgot to mention that I am no longer on that B350-F board. I upgraded to a B450 Aorus Pro Wifi, I apologize. But on top of that I have a 1080 and it feels like it's slowing down big time. I've had it for 4 years now and everytime I benchmark it. It's slower then most typical 1080 scores. So maybe in the end getting the new Nvidia 3k cards would be more worth in the end. And yes, I am looking to get more FPS in all my games.

a 1080.... yeah your best bet is a new GPU as that will be a HUGE improvement instad of going from ryzen 7 to ryzen 9 even the bump from zen+ to zen 2 isn't worth it if you have a 1080 and looking to boost your FPS. Good luck with your next upgrade :)

what benchmark? If we're talking canned benchmarks like 3Dmark, then you can just compare graphics scores and ignore physics scores as that's a CPU test.

Talking about GPU scores. My 1080 compared to other 1080s. Mines lower then theirs.

in good benchmarks you can get away with a clearly inferior CPU and still get proper scores. I think the problem is on the GPU itself, say clock speeds and operating temperature.

Are you asking for my temps and speeds? But yeah I agree, I think I just got a lower end 1080.

Edit: Both CPU and my GPU never go above 70-75.

Just run some kind of gaming benchmark and check % GPU bound.  I would bet with a 2700x/1080 you are still GPU bound 95-100% of the time (its still a good CPU).  The 2700x can handle just about anything out there.  The only exception is extremes of high fps (a 2080ti on low 1080p settings).  No reason to upgrade CPU, money would be better spent on a better GPU if you want better performance.

You would be sorely disappointed buying a 400-700$ CPU and seeing almost no increase in FPS in this scenario, then realizing you could have bought a 2080super instead and increased your performance by 40-50%.

The Box:  3900x + RTX 3080 /  32 gb 3000mHz RAM / B550 MSI mortar
