Black Screen On Windows 8 Start Up

I managed to fix it, but not from the suggestions posted. Turns out it had something to do with Quick Start-Up being on. As soon as I disabled it, boot would proceed no problem. If anyone knows why that would be, let me know. Thanks for all the suggestions though.

Hi Linus Tech Tips forum members,

 

I've been having a really annoying problem when ever I boot my computer. The boot up proceeds as followed:

Power Button --> POST --> Windows 8 Logo --> Black Screen with Cursor

The boot does not proceed. The only way I can get my computer to boot is by hard resetting (reset button), having the computer POST again, Windows 8 Logo pops up, and then the Log In screen appears.

If anyone is experiencing the same issue or someone who has solved this problem, please help.

Try to change sata type to IDE emulation and then reinstall windows. if it's already done, make it ahci. You can try also to change the sata port of the hdd. you can also try to delete all partition (after backup) and reinstall windows. hope it works!

EDIT: you should try different versions of windows 8....

check the eventlogs for errors

you might also try to uninstall the graphics card in the device manager with option to remove all drivers with it.

then reboot the computer

Its a common problem, a possible solution is to use another screen. Connect a new monitor using HDMI preferably. It usualy will work on that screen and from there you will be able to switch it back to your screen.

 

If that doesnt work, boot Windows 8 in safe mode, and then find the restore function.
