I have a Logitech G633's that sound fantastic, but they're getting on nearly 5 years old and are literally falling apart and are starting to fry (Random, loud, jarring sounds come out every other minute)

So I bought a new pair of G633's, but they sounded muffled and like a cheap pair of earbuds, so I returned them.

Repeat for about half a dozen other headsets/headphones, and now i'm super confused as to why every pair i'v tried sounds so bad. (I have tried: A newer pair of G633's, Razer Kraken, Sennheiser Game One, HyperX Cloud II, and a few others I can't recall at the moment.)

I most recently bought a DT990, 80ohm, and they still sound as muffled and weird as everything else i'v tried.

I still have the old G633 and they still sounds crystal clear.... outside of the problems stated earlier, and I haven't returned the DT990's as i'm hoping there's something I can do to make them sound better.

I just want a pair of headphones that don't make it feel like my ears are filled with wax.

Not sure if it helps but i'm running Windows 10, and my Motherboard is a Z390 Aorus pro wifi.

I don't have a sound card but my old, barely working headset sounded great without one so i'd prefer a solution that doesn't involve spending another 100-300$+

TL;DR: Old headphones sound good but are old and breaking, all the new headphones iv tried sound oddly muffled, looking for an answer that doesn't involve spending even more money.

EQ. That's all I can say. Try EQing the headphones and make them sound good. Also I'm guessing you mean dt 770 pro 80ohm and not 990? The DT990s have only 250ohm version.

I'v been playing with EQ for a while, helps a wee bit but they still sound really off.

And I did get the 990's, should I have not?

Yeah they are good. I just never knew the 80 ohm version existed for that model... Anyways. Have you tried your rear port on your motherboard and not front?

Yes, I have them plugged in to the "Line Out" on the back of my motherboard, not into the one in the front of my case.

Unless there's another i'm unaware of, iv tried all the spots that i can plug em into.

If I'm not wrong and other solutions don't work, you aren't driving these headphones properly. You need an amp/dac to make them sound the best that they are capable of. I will recommend a pretty cheap dac/amp combo. The fx audio dac x6 is a cheap and good starter dac. I know you said you didn't want to spend more money but it is really worth it if the sound is "muffled" as you described it. Since the g633 is a usb headset and the new g633 you got sounds different and all the other ones you got sounds muffled. I don't know what to say tbh.

The weird thing is that I had a pair of g633 before I bought my pair of dt 990 pro 250ohm and they sounded a lot clearer than the g633. Even though I used them in my motherboard. Also the 250 ohm version is harder to drive so mine should sound worse than yours on my onboard. And we got exactly the same motherboard. So I can't see what is going on here. Either your motherboard audio is fried or something or you have gotten a bad unit as for your headphones you've bought. Which would be unlucky as hell.

Aight, well thanks for the help, ill guess ill give that a try next.

Also since you can't EQ with an external dac/amp that hasn't an EQ on it I recommend these softwares.
https://sourceforge.net/projects/equalizerapo/
https://sourceforge.net/projects/pc-equalizer/
Download first EQ APO and select your device. Which is the amp/dac. Then install PC EQ which makes it possible to EQ of course.

It's quite possible that the DSP (effects) running on your PC are making the other options sound more 'muffled'. Try reinstalling Realtek drivers and disable all audio enhancements, other than that, perhaps the Logitech set it just what your ears prefer, they're not what I or anyone I know would prefer but perhaps to your ears that's just the better option.

For the love of god if you are a staff don't look at the edit history of this post.

So i tried to use https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-78LMT-S2-rev-12/support#support-dl-driver

To re-install my realtek drives, but it constantly uninstalls my drivers and tries to reboot my pc (Pic)

So i don't have any drives at all.

So i downloaded them from here: https://realtek-download.com/download-hd/

But the program it requires a reset to work, and once i reset the program in pic related uninstalls them.

So i'v really fucked myself over and have no idea what to do.

Edit: Fixed it by starting windows in safe mode, deleteing all RealTek files from my SSD and HDD than re-installing, this time it didn't mess up.
