Couch PC Gaming?

The Steam In-Home Streaming Beta has been pretty playable for me, so I've thought about occasionally hooking my laptop up to my TV and playing games from the comfort of my couch. (My office chair is pretty good too, but sometimes a change of scenery is nice )

 

So, I'm just curious, do a lot of you guys do something similar, either through streaming or a long HDMI cable to your TV? If so, do you most of you end up using a controller or some sort of wireless keyboard/mouse combo? I've been thinking about buying a cheaper wireless keyboard and mouse, but I was curious to know how the playing experience was.

I do it sometimes, get my PC downstairs and hook it up. Get my XBOX Controller for PC ready and sit on the couch and play games like GTA IV/Test Drive 2/Burnout Paradise/Need For Speed and just chill. It's cool tho.

As for the controller or keyboard/mouse it depends on the game. I'm on Batman Arkman Azylum now so it's a controller. I also started Bioshock which I play with a wireless keyboard and mouse. It really is a game based preference. I just need to find a nice lapboard or something... 

 

Maybe a Phantom lapboard !?

Yeah, lots of people have said it before, but it really does depend on the game. My main reason for looking for a wireless keyboard/mouse was because I gave up trying to play a shooter with my controller after about 5 mins. (I probably could get better at it with more playtime, but we all know it'll never be as precise).

 

Hmm, I'll have to check out that youtube video when I get home. I saw some other reviews for Phantom lapboards from a few years ago though, and they didn't seem terribly positive =X

There's a lot a bad reviews. I don't get why it's getting bashed so much. Doesn't look that bad. The only point that seemed legit was the range. If I would to buy this, I would make sure that it works for what I need. 

 

I wish @LinusTech did a follow up after that video. I've seen him using it in a video couple of days later (on a couch with 3 TV). but that's pretty much it. Would like to know if it's good enough. I guess the biggest problem is the price...

And I have a comfy armchair in the living room. It's quite the experience to play games from it. But it's a bit strange to be watching a big screen TV meters away and not the usual monitor. I use a wireless hdmi device btw and a wireless 360 controller.

I cant really use a controller, but Fallout NV and skyrim work awesome on the streaming thing for me, so i've been streaming a lot of them lately and using a KB and mouse on a book on my lap.
