Hi all,

 

So I've been playing a lot of Warzone lately and suddenly I've felt the age of my system in a way I never had before. While in the recent Battlefield titles I had no problem playing at high settings @ 1440p with seemingly good frame rates, I recently bought a 144hz monitor and now my definition of good fps has changed sadly.

 

Specifically, playing Warzone I avg 100fps at 1440p low settings with some anti-aliasing. Curiously, when I lower the render scale to 75% to equal 1080p I get the same avg fps. Based on the little reading I've done on this, this indicates a cpu bottleneck. Do I have that right? My cpu usage is anywhere from 70-85% in Warzone.

 

I realize 100fps avg isn't bad at all, but I really feel the dips into the mid 60s when I'm downtown and I'd like to get rid of those. My 1% low is 59-60 no matter the resolution.

 

Here are my specs:

 

4770k stock

16gb ddr3 @ 1866

gtx 1080 (with a slight factory overclock I think)

 

I'd like to be able to take full advantage of my new monitor on this game and some future titles. Assuming it was a cpu bottleneck, I was thinking about just upgrading everything but the video card and waiting for the next Nvidia release. In that case, what would you recommend?

 

I was thinking:

Intel i5 or i7 10th gen

16gb ddr4 @3600

 

Do you think that sorta upgrade would boost my frames? I've read that 1440p is all about the video cards though. So I'm open to suggestions focusing on a video card upgrade, but I feel dumb buying a 2080 rt when 3080s will be coming out shortly.

 

I guess I could also just wait until the new Ryzen stuff is out and see how that turns out. Stock is pretty limited out there rt now anyway.

Everything can be upgraded for 1/3 of your budget. Save the rest for the 2080ti.

I don't know how the Intel line up stands, I mean the Z490 boards, you'll have to pay a high price for a good Z490 board in order to overclock the i5-10600K, which is the best CPU for gaming. And you'll also need a powerful liquid cooler. This is my Ryzen suggestion for 1440p 144hz gaming. I added two NVME storage's because splitting the drive is stupid. The GTX 1080 is old and it's out of warranty if I'm not wrong, it's best if you sell your old system.

Warzone utilizes all 16 threads of my 1700 beautifully.  I would go for Ryzen and high core count way before Intel atm.  I still get 120fps average with my R9 Fury X with all settings off at 1080p and to be honest while I know the card is maxed out, the CPU will get hammered the entire gaming session.
