Does anyone have/use a new PC Set Up Checklist

Hi All,

 

I'm going to be teaching my nephew how to build a PC for the first time (and it's been along time since I've done a build) and was wondering if anyone has set up check list for good practices? I.e. after you've done the build + post anything you should do? I did see Paul's hardware first 5 things to do and that made me think if there's anything else. 

 

I used to do the basics like update drivers, create a recovery point, and install some anti-virus/spyware protection but I think there's probably more things you can/should do now a days. Thanks in advance for any references!

Hey there. This is kinda my personal preference/order of things:

 

After PC Building Installation (Windows OS)

(Based off JayzTwoCents's Guide)

1. Windows 10 OS Installation Media (Install to PC while Offline).
2. Disk Management (For SSDs/HDDs).
3. Windows Updates (Online, Enable Wi-Fi/Connect Ethernet).
4. Preferred Browser (Chrome, Firefox, Etc.)
5. NVIDIA/AMD Graphics Driver Update.
6. Display Preferences/Monitor Settings.
7. RAM XMP Settings.
8. Motherboard Driver Updates (Chipset, Ethernet/Bluetooth, Sound Card, RGB Software, Etc.).
9. Essential Software (7Zip, LibreOffice, Malwarebytes, Notepad++, Etc.)
   • Ninite Customizable Software Package.
   • Java.
   • Codec Pack (K-Lite Codec Pack, Media Player Codec Pack, Shark007's Codec Pack, Etc.).
10. Additional Software/Programs (Discord, GIMP, Skype, Steam, VLC, Etc.)
    • Ninite Customizable Software Package.
    • HWiNFO, CrystalDiskInfo, MSI Afterburner.
    • Folding@home Client and BOINC Manager.

But seriosly if you are concerned your nephew might click every suspicious link and download every „ free IPhone „ use antimalware
