Hello! I just wanted to know whats the difference between: MSI B450-A PRO MAX and MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX (idk why the text is big now lol)

Im planning to upgrade my mobo+cpu soon (got an RX580 but its a bit bottlenecked by my i5-7400) but idk which mobo+CPU to get

Im only buying new because 3 year warranty (and local cause shipping from amazon will be a problem im from israel)

I can get the B450-A Pro Max for: 140$

And I can get the B450 tomahawk Max for: 160$

Which one should I aim for? also what CPU? (that will fit with my RX580 please :D) thank you for your help! ❤️

The tomhawk has a 3 stage 6+2 phase power design iirc

The a pro max has a less quality vrm solution

They are both good board tho

Also the tomhawk has a bios flashback button

How about the pro 4?

Its cheaper while still offering a 3 stage 4 phase power design iirc

Don't buy either of them right now, wait a week or two for B550 boards.

They're not worth that much .. the B450-A Pro's regular price is around 90$, the Tomohawk was 110$

In theory tomohawk max is better for overclocking. In real world. won't make much of a difference.

(This answer is for both of you)
I probably wont buy anything right now only in like a month minimum cause I dont have money right now. budget doesnt really matter cause I will just save up for everything until I have enough even if it takes 3 months.

And I dont care about overclocking really I just want something good and decent :) also the case I will buy is MX330 Cougar and im positive it can fit ATX mobos (plz fix me if im wrong)

Hardly a budget option

I don't recommend it

Please stop with that 3 stage bullshit ... that's not a thing.  No idea what you keep going on about with that.

Both motherboards use the same 4 phase VRM for the main cpu power, with 2 hi-side and 2 lo-side mosfets per phase ... 2x 4C029N and 2x 4C024N mosfets.  So same current, pretty much same efficiency, same heat dissipation.

Both motherboards have bios flashback buttons.

Difference between boards is just a usb type c on the back and a pci-e x1 extra on b450-a pro and maybe a bit better heatsinks on the tomohawk

They're not gonna be cheap, I expect boards to start at around 120$ or so... but right now the cheapest stuff you can buy is 70-90$ due to low stocks and coronavirus, and he's looking at 140-160$ for the MSI boards.

I expect even the cheapest B550 motherboards will be better than 70$ boards like Asrock B450 Pro4 , as they'll most likely come with better VRM, better onboard audio (alc1200 or alc1220 vs ancient alc887/alc892 on b450, maybe 2.5g ethernet or wifi by default)

But we'll have to see.

Would say the same but it's not looking promising

The tomhawk mag MSRP is at 170 or 180 bucks if I remember correctly

Should be

The b550 pro 4 looks better than the b450 equivalent

But if you are only going after a budget build

B550 is not really a good option

I dont care about the price :) and im pretty sure even the "worst" option you will tell me to choose will be FAR better than my GA-H110M-S2H lol. im not looking for anything recent like the B550 cause that will be too much for me and I dont really need it since im not going for anything crazy and still its a REALLY REALLY good board so I dont think I will have any problems with it.

Pro 4

Or the tomhawk max or the a pro max

Which ever one is cheaper unless you need b550

Okay! and I dont see a reason for a b550 its so expensive and the b450 is a god mobo so why would I need anything better than that? I think imma go with the tomahawk max? what do you think? should I? lemme know! :) (and 3300x right? just making sure)

Tomhawk max is a good option

3300x if you can afford a better cpu go for the 3600

Although gaming performance they are very similar

PC: Motherboard: ASUS B550M TUF-Plus, CPU: Ryzen 3 3100, CPU Cooler: Arctic Freezer 34, GPU: GIGABYTE WindForce GTX1650S, RAM: HyperX Fury RGB 2x8GB 3200 CL16, Case, CoolerMaster MB311L ARGB, Boot Drive: 250GB MX500, Game Drive: WD Blue 1TB 7200RPM HDD.

Okay! I will aim for the 3600 :) it wont bottle neck my RX580 and vice versa right? not even by a bit?

Technically a 7400 won't bottleneck it either but it does lack HT so it is weak

Not a Bottleneck tho

Yeah but I still need a new mobo regardless my current one is trash

So the 3600 (its ryzen 5 3600 right? or 7? idk im dumb lol) wont bottleneck my RX580 right? not even by a tiny bit?

Bottleneck is always a thing

That's why you don't get a billion fps

But in this context yes

I still recommend the 3300x over it but if you can afford it go for it

I said for gaming they are quite the same

The 3300x has a slight ipc downgrade and it's FCLK is really good

Not to mention the better zen 2 fpu

But I also said if you can afford the 3600

Wont hurt to go for it

Hey again

I think imma go for the Ryzen 5 3600 instead. (its the correct name right?) it has 2 more cores and I think its a bit better. plus im not really interested in overclocking so im good! plus the ryzen 3 3300x is out of stock everywhere X_X
