Posted June 14, 2020 This 19th of june is a special day without IVA (19% off) here in my country. I have got: MSI H310 pro M2 i5 8400 RAM: XPG 2x8GB @2666 https://www.xpg.com/es/feature/552/ MasterLiquid ML120L RGB MSI Nvidia 1070TI titanium EVGA G3 550W gold I am struggling with my CPU because I always get almost 100% of utilization on games like: Battlefield V, PUBG etc, so I can't even use discord with PUBG since it gives me stuttering. Other thing, I can´t see difference (on FPS) on any game between low and ultra settings because of this bottleneck. So, I was wondering, what if I buy an i7 9700K (403 USD only available on that day) which is the best price here so far, and recover at least 45% or so selling my i5 8400. I've got no budget for PSU, motherboard or AIO only processor. But I have the following questions, please only answer if you are certain because is literally all my savings for this, there is no room for one single mistake. 1- Will my AIO (MasterLiquid ML120L RGB) cool this i7 9700k @stock without throtling? Can we trust this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_wJabW4AfA&t=457s)?. 2- Will my 550W gold be able to power this CPU @stock and my 1070TI MSI titanium? 3- Will my H310 survive at least till december 2020 with the i7 9700k until I buy a z370? by the way It does support an i7 9700k: https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/H310M-PRO-M2#support-cpu Thank you!!!!!!!!!! i7 10700k @ 5.05 Ghz MSI 1070TI titanium Corsair H100i pro XT 240mm MSI z490 tomahawk 16 Gb (2 x 8 GB) Patriot Viper Steel - 4000mhz - 16-16-16-34 Link to comment https://linustechtips.com/topic/1209044-its-decision-time-9700k/ Share on other sites
 Posted June 14, 2020 1. It will be close, but it might not throttle. 129 AIOs kinda eh....better off with a decent air tower cooler. 2. Yeah if it's a quality unit. 3. It might not throttle but it will definitely be hot. Will it work until this December? Probably without much worry. But the VRM will probably throttle. 4. The 9700 is a bad product, imo. i5-14600KF // 120x38MM Cooler Master AIO // B760i // 64GB DDR5 6000 // PNY RTX 5070 // Cooler Master NCORE 100 Max // Cooler Master V SFX-850 Gold // UWQHD AOC Display Link to comment https://linustechtips.com/topic/1209044-its-decision-time-9700k/#findComment-13714925 Share on other sites
 Thank you!!!!!!!!!! Get a better air cooler, that masterpro isn’t that great. Your power supply has the wattage for that setup, some people will come at tell you that’s not a great psu for the reasons referenced in the tier list but if you already have it, then just stick with it. And for the third question I’m not up to date with intel motherboards so let someone more qualified answer that question Link to comment https://linustechtips.com/topic/1209044-its-decision-time-9700k/#findComment-13714930 Share on other sites
 Posted June 14, 2020 Ignoring the horrible board that will likely overheat or power throttle since it's physically incapable of safely powering a 9700K, the 9700K itself is a bad purchase as it's far outclassed by the 3700X and 10600K both Link to comment https://linustechtips.com/topic/1209044-its-decision-time-9700k/#findComment-13714937 Share on other sites
 Posted June 14, 2020 @EspinalAndresAlso if you plan on buying a new mobo, just wait dude. Ryzen refresh is right around the corner along with b550 boards. And if you can wait even longer till later this year 4th gen cpus are coming out and will put the nail in the coffin for intel. Yepp 3. NO... Do not use a 9700K with a H310 board. Don't buy a 9700k...As many have already said there are a lot of better alternatives. These are the CPUs I would consider in a similar price range. Ryzen 5 3600 - best value Ryzen 7 3700x - best overall Intel i5 10600k - best gaming (slightly) Also If you plan to sell your old 8400 it will be much easier to do this if you also have working motherboard for that CPU.
