I still don't think you will get much benfit, your much better off getting. bigger pipe from your isp.

 

But give untalge a shot for a easy to use solution, otherwise pfsense, or just setup squid manually.

I've heard some isps use a cache how would that be done.

There is normally custom boxes being used. Like you get get a box from netflix to cache netflix streams.

 

Putting a cache in the middle can cause some problems, esp if your doing https aswell. Games are the few exceptions that work pretty well.

Caching https is a HUGE security hole, because you only ever know you are securely connected to your cache, not if its secure from the cache to the server.  I don't personally think its worth it.
