I'm looking at building a budget workstation build to replace my current rig. I work with CAD/simulation software that's mainly single core CPU performance, as well as stuff like blender.

I'm looking around the £300-400 mark for a GPU, and have read that the 2060 KO seems to be the way to go for workstation stuff on a budget. I've also heard that other things at a similar price can beat it's performance with OC, and that the KO gets ridiculously hot.

It's kind of hard to sift through the info and find out what cards are good for workstation tasks vs just gaming? I'll be running it with an R5 3600.

The 2060 KO gets hot, but it performs like a 2080 in non-gaming environments so if you're on a budget that's the best value for your money you can get, pretty much.

Is there an aftermarket cooler that's compatible with the KO? I've googled around a bit and can't really find anything

The only 2060KO (that I know of ) is the SC model and that cooler is meh at best

If you want just consider the 5600xt which is the same price but is considerably better

Not really. You'll be ghetto-refitting a different cooler with a barely noticeable improvement. The KO's TDP is is misleading as the cooler. The extra workstation performance comes at the cost of increased heat so most 2060 coolers will choke.
