Is an external DAC necessary for Audioengine A2+?

LadyCore

The actual Audioengine A2+ Speakers come with a built-in DAC, and I'm assuming it will bypass the DAC on my motherboard if I hook up the speakers to my computer via USB. With that being said, is an external DAC even necessary to improve sound quality even further? As far as I know, it seems that a benefit of using an external DAC is mainly for headphones. If I were to use an external DAC with the A2+, do you think there will be an audible difference in sound quality compared to using the built-in one inside the speaker?

You don't really need all that much DAC before it makes very little difference, and the A2+ speakers are solidly past that point.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
