Ram issue?

My dad gave me his old mobo and everything on it and got a new case for it it worked fine for about 2 or 3 weeks then I tried to turn it on one day and it just didnt the fans started then stopped lights on the the mobo on still but no beep and no boot I realized that one of the ram sticks were different brand and different speed but in the bios it was clocked back. Any help is appreciated.

Ok that is easy manually adjust timings and MHz or if the sticks are close to matching specs you could try enable XMP and look where each timing is not matching and manually adjust them to the slowest for each kit.

 

Example:

DDR4-2133 CL15-16-17-40-55

&

DDR4-2133 CL15-17-17-45-50

fix

I have cleared the cmos but idk what xmp is and if you have to get in to bios to do then I cant

That sounds like a motherboard issue, not a RAM issue. Try removing as many components as you can so that you have the bare minimum to turn the system on. If it turns on after that then just add the components back in and test them 1 by 1 until you find the culprit and try another part in the same motherboard port/slot to see if its the motherboard or the part that is at fault.

 

Does your motherboard have a diagnostic light or a port for a system speaker?

You should remove one of the Ram kits so we can eliminate or confirm that as the issue.

I've already tried a different motherboard does the same thing

Take out the other instead. If that still doesn't boot, try them each in each of the RAM slots until it does or doesn't work.

Then it probably isn't the RAM giving you trouble. Do as @CWALD says and unplug all but the necessary components to get into the bios. IE, disk drives, ad-in cards, Hardrives, if you have an integrated GPU, remove your graphics card and plug into the iGPU etc.

 

More detail about the components you have would be helpful.

The only thing plugged in is the cpu still won't boot does that mean cpu issue?

You also need Ram to boot and without a drive it will just take you into the bios.

Probably the motherboard. What motherboard is it? What CPU?

The mobo is the asus 970 gaming/pro and the cpu is the fx 8350

Seems like a good board. Unfortunate that it appears to have died on you.

 

Try clearing CMOS one more time that everything is unplugged accept the bare essentials. After that, I'm out of ideas.

Do you know any way to fix my psu shutting off before giving beep code

so i found the issue is the usb3_12 port on the motherboard i unplugged it and it worked fine but if i plug it back in it doesnt work do you know any way i could fix that so that i can have my front 3.0 ports

Download and install the latest USB drivers from the Asus Download Center. That probably won't work, though.
