My underclocking adventure

I have no clue why, but im obsessed with UNDERclocking all of a sudden, i guess since it can be done on a lot of systems that do not have specifically "unlocked" proccessors.

 

I have an old laptop with an AMD E-450 APU in it, and I have always undervolted it a bit with Brazos Tweaker to save a little battery. The laptop model specifically is an HP 2000-369WM, very very cheap and low end laptop.

 

So after fooling around a bit today I think I finally got it as low as it can possibly go both voltage and clockspeed-wise. (Well as low as Brazos Tweaker will let me on the clockspeed part.

 

It is a lightning fast 196.89 MHz with a power plant eating 0.5875 volts. This may even be a record, im not even sure, i havent stressed it yet, but after web browsing for a short while and messing with windows for a little while (30 mins) it seems stable.

As far as usage goes, the laptop is pretty much too laggy to be used at all, opening task manager of all things takes like an entire 7 seconds. But what im more interested in is this laptops' "4 hour battery life" being extended quite a bit :P Its currently charging, but whenever it is done, i will pull the plug and set a timer. Interested to see how long it lasts. (keep in mind this laptop is about a year old, so it has a little bit of battery wear)

Use k10stat instead. Find lowest voltage for each state and your laptop will run cooler and have better battery life.

I could, but this was really just an adventure to see exactly how low i could take this thing. reducing voltage any further crashes windows, so at this point i really dont care. Its not like i will run this thing 24/7 at 196 MHz LOL

 

 

 

OH and an update: it just finished charging, unplugged it and started a stopwatch :)

Underclocking! OH YEAH! I would like to see how that compares to other underclockers.

im not sure what you mean? are you asking me to run the "battery test" with prime95?

so far im 18 minutes in and windows is still showing 100% battery and not giving a estimated time remaining yet xD *dis gonna be good*

--the backlight is on the lowest it can go btw. wifi is on, i mean who turns off their wifi antenna anyway?

yes! that's how you will see the real difference. At stock, the cpu throtles (underclocks) anyway in idle....

yes but it underclocks to like 700 MHz.... im running it at 196MHz LOL but being that i dont have all the time in the world I will do that :) im gonna have to put it charging again though for a short while just to make sure the battery is completely full

alright im noticing an issue already. as soon as it switches to the P0 state windows crashes, i guess i need to add more voltage. gonna try to find the lowest again that appears to be stable.

Ok i am now prime95'ing this "beast" at 196 MHz like previously mentioned but at 0.6125 volts. still very low voltage. I started a timer and Im interested to see how it does.

temps so far are looking good. only at 40C right now and ive been priming for almost 3 minutes.

10 minutes in. Windows is saying it has 91% battery life left and there are 5 hrs 10 mins left. should be interesting :)

tried any benchmarks? with a monster clock like that you should be getting some world records for the slowest cpu ever  :P

1 hour into the test. 76% batt left and windows says 4hrs 16min remaining. not bad lol

temp hasn't gone above 40C.

ill try benchmarking after @Jumper118

Okay with the underclock the battery lasted 4 hrs 24 minutes and 17 seconds while prime95'ing the thing the entire time.

simply amazing. will have to check the time it will last with default settings tomorrow.
