it 6500 isnt an overclockable CPU. You would need a 6600k to overclock it. Any Intel CPU with a K on the end is overclockable, all others are not for mainstream desktop CPUs.

The 6th Gen non K CPUs could be BCLK overclocked with the right BIOS version. Later BIOS versions blocked this feature.

Here is a list of BIOS versions for MSI motherboards including the Z170-A Pro that you have.

Locked CPU, so overclocking is limited / no possible.

It Turbo Boosts up to 3.6 GHz, so you *could* set it so it runs at turbo speed constantly.

You're not going to get much more than that, though -- maybe 100 ~ 200 MHz more by tweaking the BCLK like  what @unclewebb mentioned.

Thank you for the answer, I tied to update the driver to the version that you linked, and my bootable drive is detected but the file is not. Do you know what I need to do?

You can't change the multiplier only the BCLK ( base clock ) you won't be able to do anything even with a bios update

That is not a driver. It is a BIOS file. I am not familiar with your MSI motherboard. On my Asus board, you would need to copy that file to a USB drive, boot up and go into the BIOS and then there is an option there to flash this BIOS onto your computer.

The name of the BIOS file is,

E7971IMS.17T

If you have never flashed your BIOS before, this might not be for you. Here are the instructions from your manual.

Quote

Updating BIOS

Updating BIOS with M-FLASH

Before updating: Please download the latest BIOS file that matches your motherboard model from MSI website. And then save the BIOS file into the USB flash drive.

Updating BIOS:
1. Press Del key to enter the BIOS Setup during POST.
2. Insert the USB flash drive that contains the update file into the computer.
3. Select the M-FLASH tab and click on Yes to reboot the system and enter the flash mode.
4. Select a BIOS file to perform the BIOS update process.
5. After the flashing process is 100% completed, the system will reboot automatically
