Is there really a max size???? Dell r620

Deralus

well here goes another possible dumb question

dell r620 tech manual says that there are only 2 different sizes of SAS SSD drives to choose from and i was wondering is that true and i only stuck using the 2 sizes listed or can i use any size SAS SSD???

the sizes listed are SAS SSD 200GB, 400GB and thats from this tech guide http://i.dell.com/sites/content/shared-content/data-sheets/en/documents/dell-poweredge-r620-technical-guide.pdf

i guess what i am asking is can i use any size SAS SSD on my PERC H710P raid controller or does it matter

A quick Google suggests there is no such limit:

The sizes they list are probably the largest ones they offered at that time and/or the largest sizes that were tested and confirmed to work. Not sure I'd invest a lot of money to confirm though, maybe better to ask Dell for confirmation.

Can confirm as someone who used to have a Dell R620 and used several 2TB HDDs in there :)

thank you very much i figured there was no max SAS SSD size and was just what was offered at the time now all i need to do is figure out what the best raid config is with 8 drives .... keep in mind that this is a game server and needs so maybe raid 0 on 3 and 3 and the stripe(clone) from 3 to 3 and leave 2 for system so i think thats raid 0,1?

god i suck at this lolz
