Can windows be locked while it still does work

Tried to google it but no success but is it possible to lock the windows screen but still have it fully working in the background

Yes, whatever is running when you lock Windows, remains running

wow feel like in idiot lock and sign out are two different things i though it was the same thing so just change power settings to not let it sleep and all should be good i presume

That should be default already. Only if you are on battery it will still prefer sleep mode.
