Best CPU for upgrade?

Since you have a functioning PC, wait until later this year for Ryzen 4000 and then upgrade.

Hey LTT Community

I haven't been following tech news for the last couple years. But, I feel like I need an upgrade for my CPU. Haven't done too much research but apparently nowdays CPU matters much more than it did a few years ago. Back then if it did not bottleneck you wouldn't get too much more performance even from the highest priced CPU's iirc.

What would you recommend on a budget of around 1000 NZD. 

Current Rig

6600k OC to 5.1 Ghz

1080 SLI

750 G2 PSU

All on a custom loop. Don't think there are too many more details.

3700X and an X570 board is probably best value. If you care only about gaming you could consider the 10600k

They released close to a year ago, you are probably thinking of 10th gen intel. as others have said, you could get a 106000k if you want to go intel's path.

I don't have personal experience, but I would imagine the increased threads and core count would improve performance in some more modern games. Hardware unboxed review of the 3700x includes the 7600k, so it's should give you a fair idea of performance gains. Overall though I'd say for gaming you probably won't notice a huge difference as you already have a pretty great system

10600K if just gaming, if you wanna do all the things 3700X or wait for 4th gen AMD and 11th gen Intel?
