Hi Guys

I dont know alot about my new Pc...but i'm hungry to learn all i should know  

How true is that Core speed? 

 

and is there a way to kill the 2 LED's on Asus GPU and "Start" on Mainboard? that kills the look

Your system is auto overclocked with MCE most likely. It's a way motherboard manufacturers cheat. It's accurate but it means you're also using about double the rated power for the CPU

Core speed is 5.0988 GHz, looks about right.

What LEDs are you referring to? Post photo if necessary.

That speed should be correct, but it shouldn't be at 5.1 GHz unless your manually overclocking it... Are you? If not, your BIOS is doing god knows what, and I would update your BIOS. No 9900k should run at over 5 GHz out of the box, and I just assume its pumping WAY WAY too much voltage through it if it actually is running at 5.1

That can't be MCE though. The 9900k has a max multiplier of 50. MCE would bring all cores to 50, not 51.

 

I guarantee, if this is even accurate (its possible the BIOS is just.... confused, thus needing an update), it will be pumping WAY too much volts to be safe for 24/7 use. 

 

OP, what temps does it hit during load? What cooling solution are you using? I really would update your BIOS and see what happens.

Yeah that combination of core voltage and freq makes no sense. Should be unstable if both are true.

 

Pro tip: LEDs die when you hit them with a hammer.

No...it Run's on XMP1 and the AI Overclocking from Asus

Also, CPU-Z reporting "x51.0 (8-50)" tells me that 5.1Ghz is a less-than-all-core boost.

 

I have my 9900K set to boost to 5.2Ghz on up to 4 cores, so that checks out I guess.

Ok, yes. AI Overclocking is a "manual overclock", just done by Asus. I..... wouldn't use that. Its very likely that its pumping an unsafe amount of volts through it. Its not easy to get 5.1 GHz out of a 9900k these days, the 9900ks took a lot of the good OCign chips. My 9900k would do it, but I can't keep it cool to save my life, even on my over the top custom loop.

 

Point is, I would be VERY worried about the voltage its pumping to get it to 5.1. Its 100% throwing more volts than it needs to be stable, and the amount of volts is almost certainly an unsafe amount. I would not use this option, and if you want to overclock, do it manually.

The 2 over the power pins...i asked Asus but they say there is no way to switch them off  maybe you know a way. And yes i know i could mount them verticaly but dont want to do that

That isn't correct. Its just saying the multiplier range is 8-50. That is the stock multipliers. At no load, the multiplier will be 8, for 800 MHz. At max, it will be 50, for the stock 5 GHz turbo behavior.

In my experience, the range shown there changes if you increase your multiplier past stock for all-core boost. I could be wrong, but I will be verifying later.

means? Deinstall the Asus App and just use XMP1 from Bios? Waht about MSI Afterburnner?

You can leave the Asus app installed, just disable the AI overclock option. If you want to overclock correctly, and safely (which is most important), look into how to overclock via googleing and youtube videos. Its not hard, its just a lot of work. You can use the AI Overclock settings to get a baseline, basically stress test with that on, see what voltage its pumping, and manually set a 51x multiplier and try less voltage. But, realistically, its just not worth the work with "only" a 2060 GPU. You are way more GPU bound than CPU bound.

 

MSI Afterburner only affects your GPU, which I would try and overclock. Set the power limit and temp limit to max (seems like you have already) and then run the built in auto overclock feature in MSI Afterburner (this, unlike the Asus mobo one, is totally safe). i got down to 4000mhz (as you see on pic). I tryed Cinebench befor and after. I looked CPU Temp on 85C° for the 5000mhz and all was looking good. With only 4000mhz the cooler Fan does not even Start ^^

Wait, why would you underclock the CPU...? What are you trying to do here?

 

Also, the fan should ALWAYS be running, especially for a 9900k.

 

I would seriously go update your BIOS. Most of this makes no sense.... There is no way your running a 9900k at 4 GHz, 33c, and no CPU fan. Its idling, which is why its only showing 7 watts of load, but the CPU fan should never turn off.........

I completly agree with you. Why should i go down when the System says/think it is save to run it at that speed. Specialy as it is a not manual overclock. But some peoples think it is not good. 

Yes you are right and i apologize for that....i have an AiO Water cooler, the CPU Pump of corse is running all the time. But the little noicy fan on top of the CPU Block only on heavy load, luckily.

What do people think is not good? Running it at the speed its built to run at? Just leave it at default settings. Don't use AI overclock, don't underclock it. Just leave it at auto.

 

If your water cooler has a little fan on the water block, that is just for VRM cooling. Depending on your airflow over the VRM, that is not very needed. With that said, if you're running the CPU hard, it is a good idea to have. But that is NOT cooling your CPU, its cooling your VRM. Your radiator fans should always be spinning.... I assume they are.

The range changes according to the highest allowable multiplier, but not like I thought, for only the highest allowable all core multiplier.

Wierd thing, though. I just performed the same test with my 9900K, and CPU-Z always reports 8-50 no matter what.

mine too. i disabled the AI thing on BIOS (but still with XMP1. but thats more for the dram anyway, i think) and the CPU is not going up to more then 4.8ghz but still shows the x51.
