Raid 0 or 970 Evo Plus

Hi guys,

I'm currently the proud owner of a Sabrent Rocket Q 1TB but have wanted to increase the amount of storage I have. I'm torn between buying a 500GB 970 Evo Plus for top level performance to hold my most played games and buying another of the same SSD I already have and doing a Raid 0 for more speed and storage.

 

I'm stuck between the two. Price is basically the same in UK. Is it worth the same cost for half the storage on the Samsung, or should I just buy another Sabrent?

 

(One kinda dumb thing I'm getting stuck by is the fact that the current M.2 is behind a heatsink that's in the motherboard (Z390-I Strix) and the idea of having 2 SSDs with the same load but different cooling seems... weird? I know these heat sinks do little, idk).

Gotta give them credit, the marketing of the NVMe has people snowed left and right.

 

I wold buy another Sabrent and Raid 0 them.  Should see a nice bit of speed boost, real world.  I see 25-30% load time decrease on my Raid0 SATA setup at least.

The bottleneck in loading game data is often the CPU due to decompression of the assets. Go for more storage vs faster storage in this case.

Keep in mind that with RAID 0 you have nX the chance of losing all your data where "n" is the number of drives in the RAID. Everything on my RAID 0 array that I don't want to lose is backed up on my RAID 1 NAS.
