IPS will give you the best viewing experience, but if you want the edge on the competition then go the 144hz

I'd probably go the IPS. Dem colours be sexy. Unless you're a hardcore FPS player and you need the competitive edge, go the IPS

If you're a casual gamer, just get the IPS, if you're not a casual gamer, get the 144hz, if you're playing twitch games, getting an IPS monitor is stupid.

IPS displays colour that were supposed to be displayed, while most TN are washed out. The viewing angle also helps a lot if you are watching movies and like to sit back.

If you play games competitively like CS:GO, the refresh rate might help. While IPS will increase the experience of singleplayer games.

I prefer the 120 hz over IPS. I used to have a Dell 2410 (a very high quality IPS monitor 1920:1200) and I decided to try a Benq XL2411T for its 120/144hz and the strobed effect. I play a lot of different games, FPS certainly but RPGs and RTS etc. Its mostly noticable in fast games although panning in RTS' is very obvious as well. The evidence suggests most people can tell pretty quickly the difference and it makes me a better shot in an FPS statistically.  Its surprising how obvious it is in Windows just moving a mouse pointer around, 60hz feels jerky and stuttery in comparison.

Having used both extensively now I choose the 120hz monitor every time, not just for games but also working on the desktop. The extra fluidity feels normal and natural now and 60hz feels jerky and horrid. I do miss the higher range of colour but then I don't do any image manipulation requiring accurate colours nor do I edit video for professional purposes which is where the extra colour depth really matters. Since its a monitor I am sat straight onto it so the limited viewing angle isn't an issue. But the reduction in motion and the increased refresh rate I notice all the time in everything.
