Hi,

I would like to invest in some water-cooling hardware and picked the parts below. Please let me know if there are any issues or recommendations with those:

  • Corsair Hydro X Series XD3 RGB Pump/Reservoir Combo ($155)
  • Corsair Hydro X Series XR7 240mm Water Cooling Radiator ($80). I'm also considering the EK-CoolStream Classic PE 240 for $62. Is the upgrade worth it?
  • EK-Quantum Velocity - AMD Copper + Plexi ($80)
  • EK-FC Radeon Vega - Acetal+Nickel ($78)

I'll be cooling a Ryzen 5 2600X and a Vega 56. I'm not doing any crazy oberclocking but I want a silent build because right now I can't play game without my headphones on.

I also realized that I'm actually spending as much money on my water-cooling than on my CPU, GPU and motherboard combined. Do you think it's worth it?

Thanks

no its not worth it to spend more money on cooling components than the 2 components you will be cooling with said components. Best would be to get yourself an AIO for your GPU and CPU and a G12 bracket.

The only issue is that Vega-compatible are really scarce, so the only one I can find is the Aphacool Eiswolf, which would cost me at least $300 with shipping vs $500 for a custom loop for the whole system. I've seen the Gamers Nexus build log and it's quite annoying with the thermal pads cutting. I'm also concerned about what I'll do with it when I upgrade my GPU. But I guess you're right it's worth considering so I'm hesitating.

You could upgrade your gpu to something faster with better thermals. Sapphire 5700xt comes to mind

I considered this option but I'll have a hard time selling the Vega 56. I would be lucky to get $200 from it and 5700XT would cost me at least $600 shipping included. Even at this price point it wouldn't be a bad deal though.

Another idea. Until you're ready for an upgrade. You could sell the vega and buy a used 1070ti or something for a similar price. No real loss.

Actually you guys are right. It's pointless to spend that much when I can get a better GPU for a little more. It would even make more sense to save money for a bit. Even spending $300 on a cooling system isn't worth it.
