No. It's a 2nd gen processor, you cannot plug it in an 8th gen motherboard.

Give it back to your friend and say "sorry, i'm going ryzen".聽馃ぃ

Nope, I'm afraid not, you need a board that states it's compatible with the 2nd gen chips. The socket will be very different

that's a really old CPU using LGA1155 socket boards (chipset b75 z68 z77 for example) which you will only find decent deals in the used market today. After all that's an 8 year old product.

I don't think you can buy a new 2nd gen motherboard.

Your only option is go for a used one.

make sure it has socket 1155 and a 6 (B65, Q67, Z68 etc) or 7 (B75, Q77, Z77 etc) marking for the chipset

That motherboard (the聽ASUS ROG STRIX B360-H) is not going to work with a 2nd gen CPU (due to chipset incompatibility), you're going to need a 2nd gen LGA 1151 motherboard which are difficult/overpriced new, whether it's worth using the i7 2600聽would depend on how cheap you can find a used/refurbished 2nd gen LGA 1151 motherboard.

Hope聽this information post was helpful聽聽?,
