Looking for some help as I think my rig is running hotter at idle/basic use then it should.

Running 40c just at idle, and looking like 74c max on CPU.

I ran ESO a little, but then I had steam downloading more games and then chrome playing youtube and chrome crashed.

I did some digging and found this, but thought maybe someone has a similar build who can give some insight.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ssuqhyqah2k

AMD Ryzen 9 3900x w/ Wraith, Asus X570 Tuf wifi edition, PNY 2080, 850w thermaltake psu.

Let me know if anything else is needed, thanks.

74C at full load?

40C for idle is perfectly fine.

Nah, those look OK. You can try better thermal past or improving your air flow, But with that cooler those temps are to be expected

At me or quote me, I want to hear your opinion.

Hopefully anything I say is factually correct. Sorry for any mistakes in advanced.

Whats the best way to run a test? What software or whatever? I just want to be sure everything is running good before I get into a game for more than 10 minutes. I figured CPU was the issue since chrome crashed randomly.

Yeah I have 3 intake fans, one exhaust and then Wraith on CPU in the Phantek 400a case so airflow is decent.

Just not sure what caused chrome to crash like that. CPU was only at like 14% in task manager but the CPU temp was at 72. I dont think thats full load.

Prime95 without AVX, Cinebench, 3DMark.

Make sure you're running the latest BIOS and chipset drivers.  Also, if you're running a previous Windows install after you've upgraded to the 3900X, reinstall Windows.

For temperature readings use Ryzen Master and HWiNFO64.

you can use cinabench to load your cpu, and core temp to monitor the temps

Really? So if I update bios I need to reinstall windows?

I just built this and installed Windows lol.

Oh, if you're running a fresh Windows install you're fine.

You don't have to reinstall Windows if you update the BIOS.

The stock cooler is not that great... I upgraded mine (a wraith stealth from a 3600) to DeepCool Gammaxx 400s --a 20$ cooler and the temp went down 20degrees while playing games. BUT, I've never experience my browser crashing like that while playing games though. Strange.

BTW, use Ryzen Master for temp reading, AMD said somewhere that the reading from Ryzen Master is the most accurate one.

Yeah I read that the Wraith was overall decent and was trying to keep with the RGB theme I got going so it worked. But I am going to look for other options because I want this rig to last me 8-10 years like my last rig did.

Ok gonna check on the bios. Watching this right now and its got me afraid lol

No offence but I'm really not interested in watching a 17 minute video of Jayztwocents lol.

What I can say is that many early issues with X570/Zen2 have been ironed out with BIOS updates and AGESA revisions, so it's optimal to keep your BIOS up-to-date. As long as you don't have frequent power outages, updating the BIOS should be a breeze.

Afterwards, try running a stress test and check the temperatures using either of the two apps I mentioned above (Ryzen Master and HWiNFO).

TL;DR he was saying the high CPU temps is because the mobo is pushing 1.5 volts to which is to high and recommends less than 1.4 peak.

I am not into that tech side, I just want my stuff to work well.

Not trying to force overclocking or anything like that.

But updated the bios to 1407 which is the latest I see on Asus website.

Currently sitting at 40c with  minimal CPU load.

What is AGESA revisions?

Ok I feel like I should feel ok at this point, but correct me if I am wrong. Also thanks for your help

So ran prime95 and CPU at max % temp didnt go over 70 if it did not much and not for long.

Cinemark had it up to like 75 peak.image.png.7f3f6981872c531035b4adbbaa2cf0ea.png

AGESA is basically used to initialise most of what's related to your CPU, so the actual CPU cores, the memory controller, the Infinity Fabric, etc. It gets updated with the BIOS, so there's no need to worry about it.

70-75C is actually really good while stress testing with the stock cooler.

Do you still notice any crashing or anything suspicious, as you mentioned above that you've had Chrome crash on you once (which also could possibly not have been related to the CPU)?

I didnt no, so I am thinking its actually chrome so gonna uninstall clear appdata and reinstall chrome to see if that helps that.

Doing a "Heaven" GPU Stress test now and staying under 60c on CPU and peak 75 on GPU so I am feeling its got decent airflow for me to play games a couple hours at a time lol.

Thanks again.

Yeah, might've been just some one-off thing that happened. Apps crash from time to time haha.

Sounds good man. Enjoy your PC, have fun!
