New Build - Which Psu?

Gishan

Hi guys,

I'm planning my next build with the following specs:

System

  • Intel 3930K (overclocked to 4.5 GHz)
  • ASUS Rampage Extreme IV
  • Corsair Dominator Platinum 16 GB (4x4 or 2x8), (2133 or 2400)
  • 2x GTX Titan
  • 4-5 Samsung 840 SSDs

Watercooling

  • 480mm Radiator (4x Corsair SP120 PWM, Quiet Edt.)
  • Eheim Pump (not sure which to choose yet)
  • EK Blocks for CPU & GPUs

Which PSU to choose - Corsair AX860i or AX1200i?

I've allready tried several PSU calculators and the results differ quite a bit (800 - 1200 Watt).

So has anyone experience with a similar build?

CPU: 5930K @ 4.5 GHz, GPUs: 2x GTX Titan, Mobo: Rampage V Extreme, Ram: 32GB Dominator 2800

Sound: Essence STX & SP 2500, SDDs: 2x 850 Pro 512GB, PSU: Corsair AX1200i, Case: Corsair 900D

Cooling: Full custom w/c loop (CPU, both GPUs), Build Log: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/14886-project-hermes-900d-titan-sli/

The Corsair 860W would do the job easily as 1200W is an overkill unless your going for another 2 Titans.

Either the Corsair AX850 or the AX860i, both are great great PSUs.

860i should be no problem.. but you have to keep in mind that PSU will slowly degrade overtime.

how long do you plan on running your system??

and do you plan to add more stuff in your system?

if you have the extra money  and plan to put more stuff in there, go for the 1200i

Ryzen 9 5900x | x570 TUF Gaming Pro Wifi | 32gb GSkill 4x8gb @3000mhz CL15 | ASUS Strix RX480 8gb | XFX 750W psu | Cosair H100i GTX | Fractal Design R5

Drop ENTR Halo True | Logitech G900 Choas Spectrum | Blue-Yeti | AKG k553 Pro

It should run for about 3-4 years with exactly this config.

I don't plan to add more stuff, 2 Titans should be enough :)

Got the 860i yesterday, thanks for your help guys.

Maybe I'll post a build log when I got all components and planned my w/c loop.

But that could take some weeks... waiting for the titans and 900D.

do you plan to use Corsair link? if not why buy the "i" version?

i Would by the Corsair AX860 or the Seasonic Platinum 860W

A 3770k + 2 Titans need  450W. So 800W will be enough even with heavy overclocking

Many efficient 750W+ PSUs will suffice. Personally I'd go for a Corsair AX760 or above to match the color scheme you seem to be going for. They're extremely efficient, by the way, and practically silent, I love mine.

AX860i is a very high quality PSU and I highly recommend it. It will allow future upgrades and will last for a long time, Corsairs PSU are very reliable.

Yes I'll use corsair link. but only over usb, not with an additional commander module.

And I'll get the individual sleeved red cables - does anyone know some matching sleeved sata cables?

Bitfenix Alchemy! You can get Sata cables, fan extensions, even front connectors and audio extensions in red sleeve

Thats a pic with some bitfenix alchemy stuff (from caseking.de)

Ah nice, thanks!

I'll probably order the rest of my w/c components there.

I'd recommend the AX760. The 860 won't provide any noticeable benefit, and the i series of PSUs are gimmicky.
